Uprising Son
by: Liz Fine

The first time I met Evan Greer was at the anarchist meeting place in west Philly called A-Space. It was a meeting about organizing national Books Not Bombs Day. Some guy was ranting and splitting hairs at the meeting and Evan handled him ever so diplomatically. I was really impressed by his peace keeping skills. Later, myself Evan and another friend of Evan's rose to the challenge for final preparations of the day. I watched Evan as he cased city hall in an effort to effectively plan the day's DIY education and activities. Just driving in the car with him, I learned so much. We handed out flyers, posted them around and people showed up. That day was the first time I heard him play, I have been showing up and listening ever since.

In the Depths
by: Liz Fine

I have known Dave for some years now and I have seen him go through ups and downs, with what is sometimes called the invisible disease, depression. Through it all he has always been a loyal friend, who keeps an online journal as well as creating paintings based on the music he loves. When I suggested to Dave that this might make a great topic for an interview, he was more than willing. He wants to help people understand what this debilitating disease is really about.

Maximum Departure
by: Liz Fine

Once again, my fascination continues with someone I came across on the net. Mark Meadows has put himself in the middle of wars as well as art. Places that most people don't normally have the courage to go. He has hitchhiked through Paris and lived everywhere from Iraq to the deep south of the United States. A nomad, exploring, creating and meeting new people. I contacted Mark and he was gracious enough to play phone tag with me, and he even answered a few questions. Just so you know, I managed to resist my urge to ask Mark to take me with him on his next world exploration.

Beautification Disciple
by: Liz Fine

Years ago, I was new to the net and exploring it night and day. As a student of subcultures I came across a one, I'm fascinated with to this day, the body modification community. One person I found early on was Aaron. He was young and totally entrenched in his craft. He wrote about it everyday and made it seem tempting and effortless, almost painless. I emailed Aaron, just to say I was a fan of his site, and much to my surprise, he emailed me back. That was the beginning of a friendship that has ripened and endured the years. Aaron has grown-up. He is now a man who devotes himself to helping others by way of his career. He creates and is a masterful artiste of the mind, body and soul.

Drawing on Ian Christy
by: Liz Fine

When I first came across Ian’s site, I was blown away by his startling artistry, however, the content of his dynamic work pales in comparison to his altruistic, engaging disposition. After contacting Ian, he welcomed me into his circle and began showing me around his gallery of graphic characters and ranting prose. Ian lives and works in Vancouver where he designs toys and has co founded, along with an immensely talented artist named Gabriel Frizzera: www.gabrielfrizzera.com a whimsical, yet rigorous project called Draw Jam. Every Saturday the Jamers gather a local coffee house and do what they do best, draw their ass’ off. Scene & Heard is premiering with a conversation from artist, writer and all around hep cat, Ian Christy.
