Senate to Middle Class: Drop Dead

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Friends,

They could have given the loan on the condition that the automakers start building only cars and mass transit that reduce our dependency on oil.

They could have given the loan on the condition that the automakers build cars that reduce global warming.

They could have given the loan on the condition that the automakers withdraw their many lawsuits against state governments in their attempts to not comply with our environmental laws.

They could have given the loan on the condition that the management team which drove these once-great manufacturers into the ground resign and be replaced with a team who understands the transportation needs of the 21st century.

Yes, they could have given the loan for any of these reasons because, in the end, to lose our manufacturing infrastructure and throw 3 million people out of work would be a catastrophe.

But instead, the Senate said, we'll give you the loan only if the factory workers take a $20 an hour cut in wages, pension and health care. That's right. After giving BILLIONS to Wall Street hucksters and criminal investment bankers -- billions with no strings attached and, as we have since learned, no oversight whatsoever -- the Senate decided it is more important to break a union, more important to throw middle class wage earners into the ranks of the working poor than to prevent the total collapse of industrial America.

We have a little more than a month to go of this madness. As I sit here in Michigan today, tens of thousands of hard working, honest, decent Americans do not believe they can make it to January 20th. The malaise here is astounding. Why must they suffer because of the mistakes of every CEO from Roger Smith to Rick Wagoner? Make management and the boards of directors and the shareholders pay for this.

Of course that is heresy to the 31 Republicans who decided to blame the poor, miserable autoworkers for this mess. And our wonderful media complied with their spin on the morning news shows: "UAW Refuses to Give Concessions Killing Auto Bailout Bill." In fact the UAW has given concession after concession, reduced their benefits, agreed to get rid of the Jobs Bank and agreed to make it harder for their retirees to live from week to week. Yes! That's what we need to do! It's the Jobs Bank and the old people who have led the nation to economic ruin!

But even doing all that wasn't enough to satisfy the bastard Republicans. These Senate vampires wanted blood. Blue collar blood. You see, they weren't opposed to the bailout because they believed in the free market or capitalism. No, they were opposed to the bailout because they're opposed to workers making a decent wage. In their rage, they were driven to destroy the backbone of this country, not because the UAW hadn't given back enough, but because the UAW hadn't given up.

It appears that the sitting President has been looking for a way to end his reign by one magnanimous act, just like a warlord on his feast day. He will put his finger in the dyke, and the fragile mess of an auto industry will eke through the next few months.

That will give the Senate enough time to demand that the bankers and investment sharks who've already swiped nearly half of the $700 billion gift a chance to make the offer of cutting their pay.

Fat chance.

Yours,
Michael Moore

What You Need To Know If You're Stuck With Republicans Around The Holidays

President-elect Obama won by 8 million votes.

President Bush is probably drinking again.

Many media conservatives are furious with President Bush.

Experts say that Al Qaeda's recent video shows that the terrorists are afraid of President-elect Obama.

President-elect Obama is cocky enough to think he can pull this "economic miracle" shit off.

The "socialist" takeover of America's banks happened on Bush's watch.

The "Democratic" Senate has been working with a one vote majority, and that vote is Joe Lieberman. If they get to the "Magic 60," that sixtieth vote is still Joe Lieberman.

The majority of rich Americans voted to have their wealth spread.

President Obama will probably only get to replace liberal judges on the Supreme Court.

Cheer up, the GOP still owns the "racist belt!".

Watch as Drew Barrymore takes to the streets in protest of this wretched prop 8 that bans gay marriage in California. When are some people going to get over it, I mean seriously. We straight people will have to stand up for what is right. Our gay friends can't do it alone and make no mistake, this is discrimination.

"Irrelevant"

When Bill Clinton became president in the 90's big mouthed loser radio/ talk show hosts crawled out of the right sides wood work to smear every move he and Hillary made and they haven't shut up since. Part of why they haven't shut up is that creep Rupert Murdock keeping them in business and paying them huge fat salaries (Add nut-job Glenn Beck to the Fox Noise line up). Well, the good news is nothing they pushed this election year (Terror connections, Rev. Wright or socialism) lost the election for Obama and none of their predictions came to pass. They are for all intended purposes....Irrelevant.

When Did You Know Barack Won?

Watch Oprah talk to Will Smith about when he first realized Barack was the next president. I know for me, I knew he won when he took Pennsylvania. I jumped up and screamed and filled up with tears. A feeling washed over me and I knew then and there we had won.

Yes We Can, Yes We Did! (Gloat, gloat)

"No more patriotic primates to rule the roost."~ John Cusack

Robert Kennedy Jr. said it would be great "just to have a President who can give a speech and who can write," Kennedy compared the sensation of Tuesday night to the "kind of feeling that the French had and the Belgium and the Scandinavians had when Europe was liberated. That whole dark cloud of the Bush administration," he added, "has all the sudden been lifted."

SO TRUE! And may I add that Barack has changed, improved and restored America in the eyes of the world already- even before he has stepped into the White House. His campaign alone has done more for this country then whats been done for her in the past eight years.

I had a really uneventful Halloween. The only trick or treaters I saw were my nieces. I was invited to two parties but took a pass on both. Of course all the Halloween candy around didn't get past me but that's another story.

Today, I'm going to Obama headquarters and tomorrow to an Obama neighborhood party. I'm not looking forward to lines at the polls, but I'll wait. This past seven years make it worth the wait don't they?

Paybacks

When Bush won in 2000 I was shocked, but when he won in 04' I was emotionally devastated. Not only did my candidate lose but the world lost. America was stripped down and held out for ridicule and you know what? We deserved it. How could this filthy rich, phony, alcoholic cowboy get elected to the highest office in the land? I for one was baffled.

I listen to a lot of conservative talk radio because I like to hear what the other side is thinking and I can tell you they are distraught right now. They are every bit as upset as I have been low this past eight years. They can't believe power is slipping from their grasp and they are deathly afraid of what it means to their pocket books. The thoughts of healthcare reform has them on the edge of a cliff ready to jump. I just keep wondering if they are going to apply their old mantras if Barack wins. You know the way were supposed to just stick by Bush and the office of the presidency out of some sense of patriotism. As time plotted on like a Nazi death march, we were told if we didn't support the president and his war for oil we weren't true Americans. Scandals, torture and war were not to be questioned and this aged frat boy we called a president was left to make an ass of himself and the United States at any and every turn. It would have been hysterical if it weren't so horrifically tragic. Even his own father, a former president himself stayed out of the fray.

Now that W. is officially the worst president in American history. How come I don't feel like gloating? I still feel really pissed off at the people who elected him. I was negatively affected when I found out that people I assumed were smart and caring had actually voted for a second term of Bush.

The candidacy of Barack Obama has been something I have never seen in my lifetime. He speaks to me personally. He knows what is in my heart. He gets what I get and he cares the way I care- with passion. I like that he is smart, really, really smart. I like that he is charming and well-spoken and he will represent the country well. I like that he talks about things besides money. I like that he address' the disabled and gay people and that he quiet and calm. Maybe those of us who have been screaming for the past eight years at the top of our lungs will finally be able to wrap ourselves in a warm blanket and drink in President Obama like a warm cup of chamomile tea. Maybe, just maybe healing can finally begin.

Read Bob Cesca's great article about the ascension of George W. Bush and redneck chic in America....

"For the last eight years, we've observed in shocked horror as President Bush -- this elite child of limitless family wealth -- this pampered, bubble-boy cheerleader -- marched around the world stage pretending to be some kind of shit-kicking cowpoke. His so-called Texas ranch, a strategically-timed purchase just prior to the launch of his 2000 presidential campaign, isn't any more authentically "cowboy" than the invisible six-shooters he pretends to wear on his gigantic belt, making his arms dangle outwards in some sort of ridiculous Yosemite Sam "Draw!" pose."

ACORN Explained

I found a great piece @ Wonkette.com that explains this whole ACORN thing you may be hearing about in connection to Barack Obama. I really think the repulitards are gearing up to use this argument when Obama wins. It won't work of course. Check it out....

"Basically, ACORN is a group that has advocated for terrorists — poor people, malnourished American schoolkids, etc. And one of the things this shadowy terrorist group does is try to register voters, because a lot of people who are struggling to simply survive are not bothering so much with following politics and getting to the polling place. And Republicans like it this way, because they’ve yet to figure out a way to convince certain groups of poor people (minorities) to vote for a party that is 100% against their interests and basic existence.

So, it’s easy to get the white bitters outraged because they don’t like poor minorities, either! This is some kind of elaborate class-war/race-war fakeout and it is effective at “motivating the base,” and is just one more reason why Democracy, as it is practiced in the United States, is just dumb, and needs to end. Anyway, also:

What are my talking points for when crazy relatives argue that ACORN stole the election?

What we’re dealing with so far is minor voter registration fraud. The questionable registrations number in the double digits in most states, and most of them have been flagged and caught by either ACORN themselves or election officials. Furthermore in many places the false registrations are required by law to be submitted anyway, so that ACORN isn’t guilty of, say, tossing out the forms of Republicans they sign up. They do try to flag the fake ones as fake, but regardless, the fake ones are still being caught. Also: voter registration fraud does not coherently lead to voter fraud, because if you register one man 75 times, how will he vote 75 times, exactly?

More importantly, the election can’t be stolen if it hasn’t happened yet, and voter registration fraud does not explain in any way a double digit lead for a candidate in national tracking polls. Like, wtf, how are you making this argument, are you slow? ACORN registering Mickey Mouse is why Barack Obama is up 12 in Pennsylvania? Ok, sure, whatever you say."

The Cultural War

Republicans have been staging a cultural war in this country for the past eight years. It all started with the so-called "Reagan Democrats". Now we see the once openly wealthy Republican party going after Americas lowest common denominator- uneducated (mostly white) low-information rural people. The Republicans have figured out that they can make the disenfranchised feel a part of by waving flags and pronouncing them patriotic. Callers on Sean Hannity's radio talk show greet Sean by saying, "You're a great American Sean" and he replies in kind. It's sad and pathetic that some Americans need this validation from a multi-millionaire radio and TV personality. Watch this clip as an example of low income, uneducated people in Ohio trying to make rational arguments for their irrational thinking.

That One or Those People?

The minute McSame referred to Barack Obama at last nights presidential debate as that one I texted a friend and commented on the rudeness and wondered to myself,

"Isn't that like saying those people?"

Who could stand four more years of Republican arrogance? Not me. I was also really surprised that McSame let the Obamas work the room alone after the debate, shaking hands and taking pictures with audience members. That gesture of openness could not go unnoticed no matter your politics.

Regarding the debate itself, I thought Obama was brilliant on healthcare and I was thrilled when he called healthcare a right for every American.

Racism in Politics

A friend sent me this email today. Check out the entire post on her blog, "Let's Talk About the Weather".

What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said "I do" to? What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization? What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama were a member of the Keating-5? What if McCain were a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

You are The Boss (Bruce Springsteen? oh, sorry - couldn't resist)... which team would you hire?

Keep in mind: the job description includes America facing historic debt, 2 wars, stumbling health care, a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc.

Educational Background:

Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

McCain: United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899

Palin: Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism

Now, which team are you going to hire?

Just a Paper Moon

"After watching this debate, I am convinced that if the country somehow has a collective mental meltdown and elects Sarah Palin, she will be even more dangerous than Cheney." ~ Arianna Huffington

Last night I was texting a friend throughout the debate and one comment I made was Palin being "paper thin." Ironically, Arianna Huffington referred to her "wafer thin" this morning in an article. Check out the article here.

I was really stunned at how Palin turned on the sex appeal ("Can I call you Joe" but then never called him Joe) in such a blatant fashion. Did she actually wink? I don't know any 44 year olds that do that. It must be a mid-west thing. I could never imagine Hillary Clinton acting like that and expecting to taken seriously. Palin's folksy ways and beauty pageant skills really don't speak to me unless nails on a chalk board counts.

On the other hand I thought Joe Biden was great. That man could be president on day one and it was obvious to any objective person. I know the lunatic fringe loves Palin, but here on the east coast I spend my days trying to believe people like her only exist in some far away place like..... Alaska.

This is just wrong

I've been telling people this thing McCain has with Palin is really distrubing on a whole other level. Why does a 72 year old presidential candidate pick a 44 year old attractive yet inexperienced governor he then feels he has to "protect" from the media as his running mate? We know Romney and turn-coat Lieberman wanted the job, so why the snow bunny? I think it has something to do with McSame's need to feel virile and relevant in some woman's life. Clearly, he has a need for a "trophy" as evidenced by heiress and bleached blonde wifey, Cindy McSame. If Grandpop loses this election it will be as a direct result of this impulse he was unable to control.

Sarah Palin: The More You Know the Worse it Gets

Sarah "Moose Murderer" Palin was in my neck of the woods yesterday and apparently dropped all her knew buzz words- Mom, hockey, freedom, dude and of course the specific name of the town. All the homegrown republitards really ate up the fact that someone was finally dumbing it down for them.

My friends and I are campaigning this weekend for Barack. Maybe you will stop by your Obama headquarters and pick up some voter registration forms to distribute. McSame denying press coverage for Palin's visit to U.N. is undemocratic! All the networks were prepared to ban the use of pictures and video from Gov. Palin's meetings at the UN today. The ban was in protest of the McCain campaign's restriction on editorial presence. Bastards!

A Woman, but not That Woman

I love the skit Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did last night on SNL. They hit on the very point I've have considered right from the beginning. Hillery has worked her ass off in politics and still didn't make VP yet the smug Republicans think they can sneak Palin in through the back door of the White House. One thing you have to say about the Republicans in this "culture war" they sure do have their hands around the throats of the gun toting, beer swilling, flag waving crowd. The wealthy Republicans know better yet they consistently dummy down their message for that base and guess what... IT WORKS! They convince poor and working-class people they are on their side. HA! Hopefully there will be enough Democrats who come out and vote this time. Remember that party where the poor and working-class get at least half a chance?

Palin's next so-called interview with the media is with low-life, far right radical and Reagan-phile Sean Hanniety. I just wonder if Hanniety will give her the questions in advance or will she give him the questions in advance. Either way it doesn't matter it will be softballs and drooling between both individuals.

The economy is tanked, gas prices are sky high and we are no safer today than we were seven years ago as al Qaida in Iraq is trying to reestablish itself in Mosul, Iraq's third-largest city. Military suicides reaching record levels with no end in sight to this occupation and Russia is acting up again (Gee I thought Ronald Reagan straightened them out once and for all). Won't Get Fooled Again Lyrics
Artist(Band):The Who

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the foe, that' all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they all flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
For I know that the hypnotized never lie

Do ya?

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Wanna Talk like a Hypocritical Conservative?

REPEAT THE FOLLOWING:

If you're a minority and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "token hire." If you're a conservative and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "game changer."

If you live in an Urban area and you get a girl pregnant you're a "baby daddy." If you're the same in Alaska you're a "teen father." (Actually, according to your own MySpace page you're an F'n redneck that don't want any kids, but that's too long a phrase for the evil liberal media to take out of context and flog morning noon and night).

Black teen pregnancies? A "crisis" in black America. White teen pregnancies? A "blessed event."

If you grow up in Hawaii you're "exotic." Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you're the quintessential "American story."

Similarly, if you name you kid Barack you're "unpatriotic." Name your kid Track, you're "colorful."

If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you're "reckless." A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a "maverick."

If you say that for the "first time in my adult lifetime I'm really proud of my country" it makes you "unfit" to be First Lady. If you are a registered member of a fringe political group that advocates secession that makes you "First Dude."

A DUI from twenty years ago is "old news." A speech given without proper citation from twenty years ago is "relevant information."

And, finally, if you're a man and you decide to run for office despite your wife's recurrence of cancer you're a "questionable spouse." If you're a woman and you decide to run for office despite having five kids including a newborn... Well, we don't know what that is 'cause THAT'S NOT A FAIR QUESTION TO ASK.

A Woman in the White House: My Take

Hillary Clinton has worked her ass off in public service. She had eight years as first lady where she worked on health care reform not redecorating or new dishes for the White House. Hill has a degree from Wellesley College, a top notch liberal arts school for woman. She has served in the Senate representing none other than the great state of New York. During her presidential campaign she garnered 23 of the 50 states. All of that said and she did still not win the nomination nor was asked to be VP. I really don't think Sarah Palin is going to just slide in under the radar like Grandpa McSame is hoping. I believe a black man has a greater chance of occupying that White House before a woman. After we elect an African-American, we can elect an Hispanic, then an Asian-American. They will all have a better chance than a woman. Just my opinion here peeps. Let me know if you agree/disagree.

As John McCain Chooses the Next Dick Cheney....

Let's recall a A Letter to All Who Voted for George W. Bush... from Michael Moore. It was written on September 11, 2005, Katrina's 3rd anniversary. It actually mentions McCain by name!

*UPDATE: In a desperate attempt to regain his "maverick" status and the Hillary voters, it seems McSame didn't choose the next Cheney but instead the next DAN QUAYLE! I think he just handed the election to Obama/Biden.

Dear Friends,

On this, the fourth anniversary of 9/11, I'm just curious, how does it feel?

How does it feel to know that, the man you re-elected to lead us AFTER we were attacked, went ahead and put a guy in charge of FEMA whose main qualification was that he ran horse shows?

That's right. Horse shows.

I really want to know -- and I ask you this in all sincerity and with all due respect -- how do you feel about the utter contempt Mr. Bush has shown for your safety? C'mon, give me just a moment of honesty. Don't start ranting on about how this disaster in New Orleans was the fault of one of the poorest cities in America. Put aside your hatred of Democrats and liberals and anyone with the last name of Clinton. Just look me in the eye and tell me our President did the right thing after 9/11 by naming a horse show runner as the top man to protect us in case of an emergency or catastrophe.

I want you to put aside your self-affixed label of Republican/conservative/born-again/capitalist/ditto-head/right-winger and just talk to me as an American, on the common ground we both call America.

Are we safer now than before 9/11? When you learn that, after the horse show runner, the #2 and #3 men in charge of emergency preparedness have... zero experience in emergency preparedness (!), do you think we are safer?

When you look at Michael Chertoff, the head of Homeland Security, a man with little experience in national security, do you feel secure?

When men who never served in the military, and have never seen young men die in battle, send our young people off to war, do you think they know how to conduct a war? Do they know what it means to have your legs blown off for a threat that was never there?

Do you really believe that turning over important government services to private corporations has resulted in better services for the people?

Why do you hate our federal government so much? You have voted for politicians for the past 25 years whose main goal has been to de-fund the federal government. Do you think that cutting federal programs like FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers has been good or bad for America? GOOD OR BAD?!

With the nation's debt at an all-time high, do you think tax cuts for the rich are still a good idea? Will you give yours back so hundreds of thousands of homeless in New Orleans can have a home?

Do you believe in Jesus? Really? Didn't he say that we would be judged by how we treat the least among us? Hurricane Katrina came in and blew off the facade that we were a nation with liberty and justice for all. The wind howled and the water rose and what was revealed was that the poor in America shall be left to suffer and die while the President of the United States fiddles and tells them to eat cake.

That's not a joke. The day the hurricane hit and the levees broke, Mr. Bush, John McCain and their rich pals were stuffing themselves with cake. A full day after the levees broke (the same levees whose repair funding he had cut), Mr. Bush was playing a guitar some country singer gave him at some fundraiser with John McCain. All this while New Orleans sank under water.

It would take ANOTHER day before the President would do a "flyover" in his jumbo jet, peeking out the widow at the misery 2,500 feet below him as he flew back to his second home in DC. It would then be TWO MORE DAYS before a trickle of federal aid and troops would arrive. This was no seven minutes in a sitting trance while children read "My Pet Goat" to him. This was FOUR DAYS of doing nothing other than saying "Brownie (FEMA director Michael Brown), you're doing a heck of a job!"

My Republican friends, does it bother you that we are the laughing stock of the world?

And on this sacred day of remembrance, do you think we honor or shame those who died on 9/11/01? If we learned nothing and find ourselves today every bit as vulnerable and unprepared as we were on that bright sunny morning, then did the 3,000 die in vain?

Our vulnerability is not just about dealing with terrorists or natural disasters. We are vulnerable and unsafe because we allow one in eight Americans to live in horrible poverty. We accept an education system where one in six children never graduate and most of those who do can't string a coherent sentence together. The middle class can't pay the mortgage or the hospital bills and 45 million have no health coverage whatsoever.

Are we safe? Do you really feel safe? You can only move so far out and build so many gated communities before the fruit of what you've sown will be crashing through your walls and demanding retribution. Do you really want to wait until that happens? Or is it your hope that if they are left alone long enough to soil themselves and shoot themselves and drown in the filth that fills the street that maybe the problem will somehow go away?

I know you know better. You gave the country and the world a man who wasn't up for the job and all he does is hire people who aren't up for the job. You did this to us, to the world, to the people of New Orleans. Please fix it. Bush is yours. And you know, for our peace and safety and security, this has to be fixed. What do you propose?

I have an idea, and it isn't a horse show.

Yours,

Michael Moore

The Exotic Candidate Is The One With Eight Houses

"The modern Republicans have hijacked the label "real American" and stapled it onto the foreheads of a platoon of phonies. George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Mitt Romney, John Sidney McCain, Rush Limbaugh. Hell, even the poster boy for this hillbilly dark ride, Larry the Cable Guy, is a fraud in redneck drag. And the very serious barbecue media has accepted this trickery as reality because it fits perfectly into their antiquated election year narrative."

The World Could Once Again Stand With US

"The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes, natives and immigrants, Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand," Obama in Germany 7/24/08

So many Americans love Europe. I don't know one American who has been to any part of Europe and not fallen completely in love with her beauty and cultural. The truth is many Europeans love America and our culture as well. Many Europeans know that Americans are basically good, generous people however the Bush administration has made it hard to embrace the United States these past seven years. Maybe just maybe, if we can somehow manage to elect Barack Obama we can restore the good standing America once had before the war criminals of the Bush administration robbed us. Maybe we can once again visit the homelands of our forefathers and not have to pretend to be Canadian.

**Update: Sharp Reversal For Obama With Hispanic Voters

Obama is rated favorably by 76% of Latino registered voters, making him much more popular among that voting group than McCain (44% favorable) and President Bush (27% favorable). He now appears to be even more popular than Hillary Clinton among Latinos (73% favorable).

"Let's look at this, for just ten seconds, in an attempt to fully appreciate the inanity of Mr. Icahn's remarks. A Republican president, assisted by a Republican Congress, took this country into an immoral war in Iraq. A war that has killed thousands of American soldiers. Destroyed the lives, culture, infrastructure and very soul of the Iraqi people. (Like when the cops in Philadelphia bombed the house in 1985 and burned down several blocks of homes and killed eleven people, including five children. )"

Defining the Truth

"Conservatives, and especially the *neo-cons, got this sentimental idea into their heads that all Iraq needed was a taste of American-style freedom and all would be well. They thought, "Sunnis, Shiites--forget all that. Once these people get a load of us and what we're offering, they'll come drifting out of their homes wiping away tears of gratitude and welcome a new post-Saddam era of democracy." It was a grand plan: creating a new, oil-rich, democratic ally in the Middle East. Too bad it was based more on naïve, fairytale wishes than on any semblance of practical reality." ~Bill Maher

*Neoconservatism- is a political philosophy that emerged in the United States from the rejection of social liberalism and the New Left counterculture of the 1960s. It influenced the presidential administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush, representing a realignment in American politics, and the defection of some liberals to the right side of the political spectrum; hence the term, which refers to being 'new' conservatives.[1] Neoconservatism emphasizes foreign policy as the paramount responsibility of government, seeing the American role of world's sole superpower as indispensable to establishing and maintaining global order. ~Wikipedia

More Change: Larry Lessing

"If you violate the pledge, you've created a huge opportunity for people to attack you," ~ Larry Lessing of Change-Congress.com

Larry Lessing

If the Bush admin has shown us anything (and not much positive) it has shown the change on the horizon. The senator from Chicago is basing his run for the White House on this very premise; change in the form of bi-partisan accountability. A Stanford law professor, Larry Lessing is initiating a brilliant plan that allows people to track congressmen wiki-style from home, in their pajamas if they so desire.

The professor wants legislators to promise to do four things which he says will reduce the influence of money on policy making:

1.) To promise not to accept money from lobbyists and political action committees; support public financing of elections.

2.) Support public financing of elections.

3.) Commit to passing legislation to permanently ban the funneling of money to their districts' projects of questionable worth.

4.) To commit to "compel transparency in the functioning of congress.

Natalie on Hillary & Sexism

"Which movie would you rent? “Big Momma’s House” or “Medea’s Family Reunion”? Be careful, they are both about strong women who are actually black men." ~ Stephen Colbert interviewing Robert Reich, former Clinton Labor Secretary.

Ms. Natalie Portman is getting the same impression I am regarding Hillary Clinton's campaign. She wins a few states in comparison to Obama's ten in a row but she's fighting dirty? I was stunned to read several blog comments not to mention cable news outlets that amount to nothing more then a, "That Bitch? No way!" sentiment when commenting on voting for Senator Clinton. It really has made me think Hillary and woman everywhere with any ambition need my support. The woman has spent her entire career in politics. When men do that they are dedicated, when a woman does it she's conniving or fulfilling some sinister plot. I am now seriously reconsidering my original Obama vote. I'll let you know which way I go.

Natalie Portman says: "A lot of the stuff people say about her, I hear it and my stomach falls because it's so sexist. You ask people why they don't like her and it's because her husband cheated on her! That was obviously not her choice. She's so much more polished and experienced than anyone else. Last night, a friend, a social worker in L.A. who works with underprivileged kids, was saying how these girls who have never been interested in politics before are so excited that a woman might be president. I mean, look how many women are in government…Hillary's one of, what, [a handful of] female senators?"

Universal health care must happen and the time is now. It is our RIGHT.

From Sublime to Ridiculousness There is Only One Step

"After years of dodging and dissembling, the Bush administration today boldly embraced an interrogation tactic that’s been an iconic and almost universally condemned form of torture since the Spanish Inquisition.

President Bush would authorize waterboarding future terrorism suspects if certain criteria are met, White House spokesman Tony Fratto said this morning, one day after the director of the CIA for the first time publicly acknowledged his agency’s use of the tactic, which generally involves strapping a prisoner to a board, covering his face or mouth with a cloth, and pouring water over his face to create the sensation of drowning. " ~ (Source)

Now you may ask yourself what does John McCain have to do with torture and the answer is I don't know we'll have to see after he plants us in Iraq for the next "One Hundred Years." Also I question the mental stability of a person like McCain who is desperate to align himself with the Bushes; the conservative right.

A LGBT Message From Hillary

"My father was a conservative Republican, who held very traditional views for much of his life. Yet in his last years, it was a gay couple who lived next door who provided much of the compassion and comfort he and my mother needed as he grew ill. And it was that same neighbor who held his hand as he died. If my father can move, America can move." ~ Hillary Clinton

(Click below to read her stunningly beautiful message in it's entirety)

As I have traveled around the country these past twelve months, what I sensed in my heart has been confirmed – America is embracing its LGBT sons and daughters with an acceptance and understanding as never before. On the campaign trail, a father of a gay son will ask about ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. A woman will ask why she can be discriminated against just because of who she is. Sometimes they wait furtively for the crowd to thin and then whisper their confidences in a soft voice and sometimes they stand up proudly at town meetings and want me to share my views on how I will help lead the change to assure that this country fulfills its promise to everyone.

Let me tell you what I have been telling voters across America. I am fully committed to the fair and equal treatment of LGBT Americans. For seven long years, the Bush Administration has tried to divide us - only seeing people who matter to them. It's been a government of the few, by the few, and for the few. And no community has been more invisible to this administration than the LGBT community.

I will change that. The best evidence of what I will do as President is what I have already done.

* I am proud of my record as First Lady, as a U.S. Senator and as a candidate for President in working toward the fair and equal treatment of LGBT Americans.
* I am proud that as Chair of the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee in 2006, I worked closely with LBGT community to develop a smart strategy that defeated the Federal Marriage Amendment. I am proud of fighting the FMA as divisive wedge politics at its worst.
* I am proud to be a co-sponsor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, and the Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligation Act which would grant the same benefits (including health insurance) to domestic partners of federal employees that are currently offered to employees’ legal spouses.
* I am proud to have authored the Early Treatment for HIV Act, which expands access to vital treatment options for low-income individuals living with HIV, and fought to fully fund the Ryan White CARE Act.
* I am proud that I hired a National Director of LGBT Outreach within a month of announcing my candidacy for President and to have openly gay and lesbian staffers serving at all levels of my campaign.
* I am proud to have a National LGBT Steering Committee of over 130 that includes openly LGBT elected officials, Board members and opinion leaders on issues ranging from transgender rights, to HIV/AIDS, to “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”.
* I am proud to have marched in Gay Pride parades as both First Lady and as Senator and to have spoken in front of so many LGBT audiences ranging from the Human Rights Campaign, Empire State Pride Agenda, the Hetrick Martin Institute, PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), GMHC (Gay Men’s Health Crisis), and the American Foundation for AIDS Research.
* I am proud to have fought Republican efforts to demonize and marginalize the LGBT community, and I will continue to do that as President.

We have so much work to do. When I am President, we will work together to make sure that all Americans in committed relationships have equal benefits and that nothing stands in the way of loving couples who want to adopt children in need. We're going to expand our federal hate crimes legislation and pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and assure that they are both fully inclusive of all people. And finally, we will put an end to the failed policy of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Courage, honor, patriotism and sacrifice – the traits that define our men and women in uniform – have nothing to do with sexual orientation.

My father was a conservative Republican, who held very traditional views for much of his life. Yet in his last years, it was a gay couple who lived next door who provided much of the compassion and comfort he and my mother needed as he grew ill. And it was that same neighbor who held his hand as he died. If my father can move, America can move.

To each and every LGBT American, I say this. You have done so much to help this country understand your lives by simply being open and honest about who you are and living your lives with dignity. Thank you for your courage. It is time that we recognize your hard work. I know that this country is ready for changes in the law that reflect the evolution in our hearts.

America deserves a President who appeals to the best in each of us, not the worst; a President who values and respects all Americans and treats all Americans equally no matter who they are or who they love. I want to be that President. I want to be your President.

The Insanity of the Republican Party

"I didn't think anyone I knew was still clinging to the republican bullshit. I didn't even know what to say." ~Anonymous

Two female suicide bombers blew themselves up Friday in separate attacks on Baghdad pet bazaars, killing at least 68 people and wounding dozens, police said. The attacks were the deadliest in the Iraqi capital since 30,000 more American troops flooded into the center of the country last spring. (Read the article here.)

If you voted for George Bush in either election, please accept that fact that politics is not your game. If you can't find an intelligent political role model (Ladies, that doesn't include your husband or your boss) then just do the rest of middle class and poor America a favor and stay the hell home. The soldiers families will appreciate it, I'm sure.

Barack Obama's response to Bush's final State of the Union

Ted Kennedy Endorses Barack Obama

Last night was Bush's final state of the union address. Fortunately I was able to ignore it and focus on the amazing speech Senator Ted Kennedy gave earlier in the day endorsing Barack Obama. Senator Kennedy actually says straight and gay and not "same sex." He talks about the war and openly says it never should have happened. Healthcare, caring for one another and hope for the country we know we can be, the country we all want.

The entire time he was speaking all I could think about was my Irish immigrant grandmother and her worship of the Kennedy's. That family is truly an iconic part of American history and yesterday Ted Kennedy along with son Patrick and niece Caroline reminded us why. Senator Kennedy spoke with such passion and a sincere love for this country and public service. It was really tremendous to see and hear.

Thanks to all who voted for Bush........twice!

Hill or Obama?

As things heat up in the South (The South, God help us all) Margaret Cho writes a nice piece on Huffington Post that gives me pause. Why are we non white men expected to pick a side like a kid in grade school?

The Youth Ask Hillary II

I know all the stuff about a two party system and one being as bad as the other but at least the Democrats don't hate gay people and are willing to openly back the GLBT community and considering all that the GLBT community contribute to society, it's only right.

Update: More on the Homophobic Republicans...

The Youth Ask Hillary

I love what she says regarding these rip off student loans and kids who don't go to college having a chance at being middle class. That hasn't been true since my PARENTS generation. Can you imagine not having a college degree and being able to get a house comparable to the one you grew up in? These days, not without family backing or multiple jobs.

I Know I'm Ready

Hillary looked so happy this morning on TV. I'm sure that was a huge relief for her. Obama didn't lose by much people. I really hope he wins South Carolina. I hope every damned able bodied African-American turns out to give Obama their vote. That is such a racist state. Remember they wanted to keep flying the confederate flag over the Capital dome? UGH!

As much as I would love to see a woman president, I hope Obama wins so people can finally begin to get over race in this country and if they can't get over race at least know hate isn't working for them. I pray that African-Americans come out in record numbers to embrace this opportunity. I would love to this country finally round a corner and let's face it, the concerns of the African-American community closely mirror my own and those of most working class people.

My parents generation is what I call the
