The New Communists and a New Gay

"I see it as trickle-down communism," Mr. Perkins said. "We have a communist action where everybody is paying for the benefit of the few and hoping the benefits will trickle down to everyone else." ~ William O. Perkins III

Read the amazing story about how what should count as a win fall payday for a Houston energy trader instead, left him so angry about the demise of capitalism that he says he has decided to spend his profits on advertisements attacking President George W. Bush's planned $700 billion Wall Street bailout.

NewCommunist.jpg

39-year-old Mr. Perkins is putting cash behind his anger. He commissioned an African-American arts collective to draw a cartoon depicting Mr. Bush, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke trampling on the graves of private enterprise and capitalism. Then he paid $139,104 to run the drawing as a full-page ad in the Tuesday editions of the New York Times. And he promises to spend a million more on ads before he is done.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The "Gayken" is GAY! I know you're shocked. People magazine released this excerpt from his interview....
On how he thinks his mom-jeans-wearing fans are going to handle the news:
"Whether it be having a child out of wedlock, or whether it be simply being a homosexual, it's going to be a lot. I've never intended to lie to anybody at all. ... But if they leave, I don't want them to leave hating me."
Did actually refer to himself as a "homosexual" ? That's sad. You know he's been scared to death for his career. No one should have to live like that and if all the closet cases would just come out there would be no closet. Clay's case proves people have to do it in their own good time. Someone finally came into his life (his son) and challenged him to be a better, more authentic person.
I never thought humiliating or harassing gay celebrites was the way to get them to come out. Each and every one of us lives according to our own truth and that is our individual right. If I don't agree with someone I can call them on it, but there comes a point where I have to let go of imposing my viewpoint on them. That's where my choice to associate with that person comes into play.
I'm happy for Clay and his family and I bet he will be shocked at the love and new meaning this disclosure brings into his life.
Keep Your Eye On This People!
Before Reagan came to power, the right wing ideologues understood that Americans would never give up the gains made by the middle class with FDR thru LBJ. Though the extreme right was able to instill fear in American's psyche at the sound of "Social Programs" and "Socialism" they could not persuade Americans to give up Social Security, Public Education, National Parks, etc. In effect folks could readily see and understand the fairness and benefits that these programs provide for society as a whole.
So it was that the extreme right launched a new strategy to stop social programs: break the country. This is why Reagan TRIPLED the national debt and G.W. Bush has doubled it. As a matter of fact Reagan and Bush Jr. are responsible for more than 7 trillion worth of debt out of 11 trillion.
These new bailouts (which are not accounted in the national debt yet) can complete the process of leaving the U.S. without any capital to make any investments in our society. If we let them get away with it; their triumph will be complete. This is why the transfer of debt to the American people should be accompanied by a transfer of the ill gotten gains made by those who made the obscene profits that have brought us to near bankruptcy.
Back to Work
*Today's Horoscope for Sagittarius-
Even though it's the end of the workweek, you are becoming more concerned about your job and where it's taking you. You may find yourself thinking about leaving your current position, but it may not be the best idea, unless it's something you have been planning for a long time. Impulsive action may be seductive now, but a more conservative approach makes the most sense.
After having the whole summer off (and trips to Cape Cod and the Poconos), I return to work on September 2ND. I have to adjust to an amazingly hectic schedule that somehow never seems organized until *I* organize it under the strict supervision of some very impatient people, I might add. I need a work physical that involves a bunch of running around not to mention dealing with a 5 am wake up call. OK my pity party is offically over. :)
The Summer of Awful
"The Summer of 2008 -- what I'm beginning to refer to as The Summer of Awful -- is shaping up to be one of those cinematic blocks of time that's sure to become the epic setting of books and movies of the future. The heat, the floods, the gas prices, the stock market, the unemployment, the foreclosures, the Olympics in China, the tainted tomatoes, the wild fires, the torture, the eavesdropping, the war, the vanishing Arctic... All of it magnified by this historical presidential campaign. The Summer of Awful. I can't recall a summer in recent memory more overpopulated by history and awfulness and insanity -- stacked up to our eyeballs and so directly impacting each of us on some very personal level." ~ By Bob Cesca (source)
“None Of Your Business”
While campaigning for her mother Tuesday at Butler University in Indianapolis Chelsea Clinton told a college student his question regarding her mother and Monica Lewinsky was "And I do not think that is any of your business." I say good for Chelsea. This gentleman Mr. Evan Strange (Yes, that is his real name) asked a question and he got an answer. (Source)
Didn't Mr. Strange (I can't resist calling him by his name) consider a better way to ask his question; a more tactful, classy way? Mr. strange could have asked, "Does the trials and tribulations of your mother's private life make her more equipped to lead a nation?" See what I mean, a kinder version?
I know for me I give ex boyfriends nicknames such as "The Prisoner, or Ole Crazy but Cute or That Lazy Bum" because the sound of their real name makes me shudder. Just imagine mentioning by name Mark David Chapman to Yoko Ono. That would take guts out of this world. I thought it was beyond rude to put Chelsea on the spot the way Mr. Strange did and not because she is fragile but because the people he is referring to are her mother and father whom clearly she loves. Since he felt the need to ask such a classless question I applaud Chelsea's direct answer which was followed by a round of applause from the crowd.
If Mr. Strange was one of my ex boyfriends I guarantee I'd still refer to him by his real name.
4,000 Americans Killed In Iraq
"Picture of me and some Iraqi kids home alone in Ta'meem Ramadi in 2006.
They had a wall rug with a picture of the signing of the United States
Declaration of Independence in their living room.
I asked them if their parents told them what it meant and they did not have a clue.
Their parents purchased the rug in a market. I also have a second picture of the entire wall rug.
We had to leave before I could explain what the picture meant." (Source)
I look at this picture and wonder what these poor Iraqi families must go through on a daily basis with armed soldiers everywhere not to mention what these soldiers are seeing and dealing with daily. I was profoundly against this occupation from day one and I remain that way. My number one reason for wanting to vote for Obama is the fact that he voted against this war. In turn that is my number one hesitation on giving Hillary my support coupled with my disdain for Bill Clinton's passive/aggressive remarks such as there being two patriots running for office refering to his wife and McCain.
Some of you may have noticed my inner struggle as to who I should vote for but with each passing day my conscience gets louder and louder. I have to vote for the real anti-war candidate, Senator Obama.
Look What's in Charge
This low-life Spitzer is running the show? He served as New York State Attorney General before becoming Governor of New York in 2007. Spitzer busted people for a living, think about that. Senator Larry Craig is still in office. Consider that one for a reality check. Look what this man has done to his wife and family? His wife looks destroyed. This is what happens when you allow toxic people into your life. Labels and trappings mean NOTHING. This man shared his money with a hooker. Money that belonged to his children and wife. He put them on par with a hooker in an effort to chase his own desires.
I hope they dig up the hooker and she gets to tell her side. Undoubtedly, a pretty but limited girl, I bet she has a tale to tell about this creep. Once again, a wealthy ne'er-do-well taking advantage of a call girl's services; something HE and his kind made criminal behavior. To quote the hooker, "Dude do you want the sex?" Oh he sure did and now he's going to fry for it.
Raspberries
Things are going well with the exception of my health. Colds and such seem to come and go but from what I'm hearing everyone is dealing with that. I guess it's lucky I got the flu shot earlier in the season or I would have really been screwed.
I'm enjoying the debates between Barack and Hillary. Two intelligent, caring people is refreshing. It's been seven years since I could feel anything but pure venom when it comes to politics. All we've done the past seven years is hit the mute button when George Bush comes on the TV.
I have two weeks off coming up this month and I think I'll take my oldest niece to the art museum to see the Frida Kahlo exhibit. Maybe a day trip to NYC if the weather cooperates? Other than that I have no big plans and no intention of acquiring any.
My new car is lovely. I have to admit I'm really enjoying it. I hung onto my last car for so long and this time I'm thinking I will upgrade sooner. I have so many kettles on the fire. Probably not SO MANY, but it feels like things are changing fast and for the better. Of course I am initiating a lot of that change. I got through buying a new car and that was something I had a lot of fear around due to some underlining issues. I have to remember that I am a lot stronger then I give myself credit for and sometimes when life feels trying I just need to adopt the attitude of my 3year old niece....
Good Stuff
The weather is gorgeous again today. High 50's mid January? I'll take it however I'm starting to catch a cold or something. I started a Z-pak today in case it's that thing going around. I already have plans on Saturday so I want to be well.
I got on the scale this morning and I didn't gain any weight over the holidays. Usually I'm on a big health kick but lots of extras including champagne crept in there so I was relieved.
Dog is Done
Well A&E thankfully has pulled Dog The Bounty Hunter. Make no mistake, yours trully was a fan of the show but Dog speaking to his son like this is sickening to me and I would never be able to watch him again.
Watch and listen as "Michelle" on YouTube shares her feelings about Dog's message to his son. She makes many good points regarding his "clarification" of the "N" word and it's usage. The bottom line here folks- none are Dog's adult offspring are to date African-American people because DOG is not comfortable with the idea and has no intention of reevaluting his position even after his son tells him how much his girlfriend loves him. It's really sad. BTW- it was revealed today that the son, Tucker did in fact sell this tape to a tabloid. I understand the anger that was behind that move.
More Horror as Halloween Continues...
"Dog" The Bounty Hunter is a RACIST! TMZ has posting a recorded conversation between dog and his son. Apparently, Dog's son Tucker is dating a black girl and Dog doesn't want her around because he has no intention of discontinuing his use of the "N" word. Charming. I always watched this show because I thought Dog's other son, Leland was hot in a trailer trash sort of way. I'm disgusted with this latest revelation but thankful that A&E has decided to stop taping the show pending further investigation recognizing that use of this language is unacceptable.
Bad Weaves or Unbeweavable
Poor Britney Spears. She really is a cautionary tale. What frightens me is her mother has her little sister in show business as well. Why do people put their kids too work? Why do people push their kids to "make it?" Look, I can see if an opportunity falls into your kids lap and you take it to pay for college. I get that concept. I just don't get hustling your kid to auditions even if they say they enjoy it. Shouldn't children take lessons and enjoy activities that way?
Britney is an unfit mother because she is an unfit adult and that's sad. Emotionally disturbed and drug addicted, she shouldn't be left alone with herself let alone two babies! Out on stage as a kid- in bare midriff get ups singing, "Baby hit me one more time." and people wonder why she walks around LA all day with her blouse unbuttoned? Britney has become a cautionary tale, like most of them do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And finally, I'm so thrilled Al Gore won the Nobel Peace price. Take that stupid Republican/right wing critics! Gore plans to donate his half of the $1.5 million prize money to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a bipartisan nonprofit organization that is devoted to changing public opinion worldwide about the urgency of solving the climate crisis.

People say he was robbed on '04 but really America was robbed. Obviously Mr. Gore is fine, it's the country that is suffering at the hands of this criminal administration. White House spokesman Tony Fratto said Bush has no plans to call Gore. Of course he doesn't, he's an ass. You really can't help but wonder, "what if."

Outfest '07

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

--From Hamlet (III, ii, 239) William Shakespeare

"The ever-litigious badboy Michael Marcavage and his cronies of Repent America will be sure to make an appearance (they do more gay events than any gay people we know -- hummmmm -- time to come out of the closet perhaps). He is pretty much a drama queen so please just try to ignore him as much as possible so as not to give him the attention he craves." ~ Outfest organizers on their website

Yesterday was Outfest in Philly's gayborhhood.

It's a big block party filled with GLBT related booths and what not. I was there to support the Dumpsta Players and act as personal assistant to The Divine Ms. Jimmi. The Dumpsta's did an amazing job and were a big hit. I ran into Freddy who gave me a I "heart" SF tee shirt from his recent trip to San Francisco. (Thanks Freddy! I love the shirt)>

When Ms. Jimmi left the stage she was swarmed with fans- literally. One after another people wanted their picture with The Divine one. This is when my personal assisting duties kick in, I hold her bag while she poses and greets the fans. I caught one girl in particular who was really afraid to approach Jimmi. I overheard her telling her friends she was afraid and they were trying to coax her on. I told the girl to just ask, Ms. Jimmi is really nice. The girl was SO excited I thought she was going to cry afterwards.

Aside from the sweltering heat Ms. Jimmi decided she needed to take on the "fundies" as only Ms. Jimmi can. Fundies is short for fundamental Christians. You know the hell fire and damnation gang. Truthfully, there were only a handful of those kooks there and the police had them surrounded the entire time. Leave to Ms. Jimmi to turn a fundies protest into a show! Clad in leopard pants, a black bra and a "Britney" (wig) on her head, Ms. Jimmi broke out and began MODELING in front of the protesters. All at once I see the police totally break up laughing. It was hysterical! The serious professional looks on their faces gave way to the absurdity of the ever demure Jimmi working her thang! The fundies went ballistic and began toting Jimmi as someone with an "identity crisis." The crowd was in hysterics and in no immediate fear of burning in hell.

You have have to wonder about a few people that need to crash a party. I really got the impression these poor Christians needed to be there for a deeper reason then even they knew. It was Sunday why weren't they at their club house, church? The thing we dislike most in others is the thing we dislike most in ourselves.

"You're an abomination to God."

"Repent sinner or burn in hell."

"God is punishing you with Aids."

The protesters chirped at a crowd who was laughing in the face of that tired old rhetoric.
After mingling and posing for more pictures we ducted into a restaurant and ate dinner with Jimmi's husband and a few friends. The day was a so fun and hopefully I will be adding some pictures to this post soon.

T.G.I.F

I feel the need to thank God it's Friday. What a week it's been, very tiring. Day after day getting up before the break of dawn and finding my way around a new vehicle. It's very hard. Harder than I ever expected. A lot of times I can't believe I'm doing it and then I remember it's better than being in a cubicle.

I could have "plans" for tonight, but I want to go shopping before the weekend. A friend and I are doing lunch tomorrow and in the evening I'm taking the kids to our neighborhood block party. I need something to wear; a white shirt perhaps?

We got a newsletter from work today and first let me say this, I do my job and I go home. I don't know anyone at my job except my bosses and one or two mechanics. I actually ADORE that aspect of the job after working in a hen house(AKA an office full of women) for seven years. When I need to communicate with my boss' I email them from home. Don't you love it? I sure do. Now with that said, it's shocking what my boss actually needs to tell some people.

"Please don't wear clothes with holes and/or stains to work."

"If you use the break room to change your babies diaper, please dispose of the diaper properly."

"Please don't leave food on the floor in the break room."

Huh? WTF! Americans can be so trashy. We are known for over regulating, but look what happens when we don't make something a law or a rule. Pigs, slobs and criminals take full advantage. The Brits at least care about manners. I was really disgusted when I read that and I felt bad for what my boss' must deal with everyday on top of the volume of work they have.

I have a long afternoon ahead of me but it's Friday. Afterwards I'll go shopping then I'm in for the night, no longer steady mobbin. Never mind, that's just a lyric from an old Ice Cube song.

The Jena "6"

In September 2006, a group of African American high school students in Jena, Louisiana, asked the school for permission to sit beneath a "whites only" shade tree. There was an unwritten rule that blacks couldn't sit beneath the tree. The school said they didn't care where students sat. The next day, students arrived at school to see three nooses (in school colors) hanging from the tree.

An Open Letter To Paris Hilton

paris__jail.jpg

Dear Paris,

Recently TMZ.com reported that you were in prison and feeling "cold and scared." You had frequent visits from not only a lawyer but your psychologist to help with the transition. In the fortunate light of your name and families money you were released early. Oh wonderful for you. I'm sure you welcomed that news as anyone would.

Now that you are free I'd like to make a suggestion. Please consider the people on this planet who are "cold and scared" every day of their lives with no relief in sight. What about using your celebrity and wealth to create safe havens for battered women and their children. I'm sure you weren't able to encounter many, but the prison you were just in is filled with abused women who were once abused children.

Cold and scared could mean the turning point in your life. Maybe it's time to grow up? I challenge you to use this experience not to walk a fiercer red carpet, but to bring real meaning into your life and restore integrity to the name of Hilton.

Clearly the night before your incarceration your judgment was still be foggy. I'm guessing in an effort to appear strong you decided to make the MTV movie awards show event only to find yourself publicly scorned and humiliated. Imagine turning your life around and becoming a person of honor and integrity- the person you were always meant to be. No more brushes with the law, no more penis jokes. The choice is yours as it has always been. Let's see what you've learned from your experience.

Warmly,
Liz

President Carter Sheads More Light

Carter courageously came down on the Iraq war. Those who voted for Bush should never trust themselves to vote in another election until they are able to educate themselves and find some compassion for their fellow human-beings and the planet.

FROM THE AP

“We now have endorsed the concept of pre-emptive war where we go to war with another nation militarily, even though our own security is not directly threatened, if we want to change the regime there or if we fear that some time in the future our security might be endangered,” he said. “But that’s been a radical departure from all previous administration policies.”
Carter, who won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, criticized Bush for having “zero peace talks” in Israel. Carter also said the administration “abandoned or directly refuted” every negotiated nuclear arms agreement, as well as environmental efforts by other presidents.
Carter also offered a harsh assessment for the White House’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, which helped religious charities receive $2.15 billion in federal grants in fiscal year 2005 alone.
“The policy from the White House has been to allocate funds to religious institutions, even those that channel those funds exclusively to their own particular group of believers in a particular religion,” Carter said. “As a traditional Baptist, I’ve always believed in separation of church and state and honored that premise when I was president, and so have all other presidents, I might say, except this one.”
Douglas Brinkley, a Tulane University presidential historian and Carter biographer, described Carter’s comments as unprecedented.
“This is the most forceful denunciation President Carter has ever made about an American president,” Brinkley said. “When you call somebody the worst president, that’s volatile. Those are fighting words.”
Carter also lashed out Saturday at British prime minister Tony Blair. Asked how he would judge Blair’s support of Bush, the former president said: “Abominable. Loyal. Blind. Apparently subservient.”
“And I think the almost undeviating support by Great Britain for the ill-advised policies of President Bush in Iraq have been a major tragedy for the world,” Carter told British Broadcasting Corp. radio.

Rutgers Blasts Imus' "Despicable" Remarks

"Unless they've given 'ho' a whole new definition, that's not what I am," said player Kia Vaughn.

Click here to listen to the Rutgers basketball coach put Imus and people like him to shame. Her message is amazing.

The Rutgers women's basketball teams identifies Imus' remarks as not only raciest but sexist.

Imus scrambles, soon to be made aware of how far reaching his raciest and sexist attitudes are.

Food For Thought.....
Who has the right to use to word "Ho" without repercussion?

Posted by Liz at 07:40 PM | Feedback (3)

Nappy Headed Ho's, Jiggaboos & Wannabes

Picaninny_Freeze.jpg
Reproduction of an old, tin sign advertising Picaninny Freeze, a frozen treat.

Don Imus Is a crusty old geezer. I know his type as most of us do. It's his generation- they're pontificating fools. They think they know everything, they aren't open to other opinions and worst of all they feel they have nothing left to learn because they've "seen it all."

This old dude finally got it thrown back in his face. Before he could take the cotton out of his ears and shove it in his mouth, he should have stopped to think what the women of Rutgers were up against to get where they were in college basketball. Like many racist and sexist men of his generation, all he could think about was whether or not they looked pretty running down a basketball court doing what he could never even dream of doing. He thought he was being funny, but don't these types always think they are funny? Amongst their own, I guess they are.

These old guys always want to use the excuse that they are good people and meant no harm when they open mouth and insert foot. Doesn't a really kind, good person THINK before they say things? It's not always easy I know I that, but isn't that why he's paid the big bucks to be a mouth piece on the air waves? Can't he get a point across without the use of racial slurs?

One final thought on this friends... I would like to challenge the African-American community to stop participating in the usage of words like nappy and nigger and all the other terms that stem from self-loathing brought about from an ugly time in American history. I know the reasoning about wanting to "own" hate words, but does anyone really need to own these words at this point? It's 2007 and we are potentially going to have a Bi-racial presidential candidate for the first time in our history. Soon the "Imus" generation will die off. Can't we let those terms die with them?

Still Wrecked: More on Anna Nicole

Did anyone see Larry King Live last night? Joanie "Chyna Doll" Lauer was on with demented Larry. Chyna appeared bloated and disheveled and was crying about the lose of her dear friend Anna Nicole. Cut to the CEO of Trimspa's wife who totally challenges Chyna's reasons for being there and even goes as far as to call Chyna a "stalker." The CEO's wife claims she spoke to Anna Nicole about Chyna specifically at Daniel's funeral and Anna Nicole claimed she couldn't stand Ms. Lauer. Chyna was nothing less than stunned and even though her speech was slurred, she attempted to defend her friendship with Anna Nicole.

Osman Chowdhury- Person of the Week

While some might be tempted to focus on the woman from Texas and the disgustingly cheap behaviour she displayed, I prefer to focus on the lovely cabbie who returned her possessions without any regard for personal gain. This man did the right thing simply because it was the right too do. I admire that quality.
This brings me around to another point. Tipping is a MUST. The only excuse to not leave a 20% tip is very poor service and even then, a slight tip is still necessary. If you are out and can't afford to leave a tip, #1 you should have stayed home or #2 you should not be living in the U.S. Tipping is the system we use in this country and it is how our fellow citizens are making a living. You enjoyed being waited on, right? Well they enjoy being paid.

By VERENA DOBNIK
AP

NEW YORK (Feb. 7) -- Never mind diamonds -- a New York cabbie was a Texas girl's best friend. The driver returned 31 diamond rings he found in his cab after dropping off the passenger, who had left him with a 30-cent tip on a $10.70 fare.

"All my life, I tried to be honest," said Osman Chowdhury, a native of Bangladesh. "Today is no different."

But the 41-year-old cabbie from Queens did have a message: "I'm proud of what I did so that people know New York taxi drivers are honest."

What he did started on Monday evening, when he picked up the woman at a hotel in midtown Manhattan and drove her to an apartment building several blocks away. She gave him $20 to pay the fare and asked for $9 back.

Hours later, at about 10 p.m., three other passengers with luggage discovered the woman's suitcase when Chowdhury popped the trunk open for them.

Chowdhury first drove to the building where he had dropped off the woman. But he had no idea in which of the many apartments she might be and didn't want to cause a disruption by knocking on doors.

He took the suitcase to the Manhattan headquarters of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, a drivers' advocacy group to which he belongs. He and the alliance president looked inside and found two display cases with 31 diamond rings inside.

"I saw flashing, and I said, 'Oh my God! Diamonds!'" Chowdhury recalled. "I was shocked. I was trembling."

They also found a small luggage tag with a Texas telephone number they called -- the home of the woman's mother in Dallas. Meanwhile, she called the number, too.

The woman, who said she was a jeweler, got back the gems on Monday when she arrived at the alliance office around midnight -- incredulous at her luck. She offered Chowdhury a reward -- a check for $100.

He said it never occurred to him to keep the diamonds.

"I'm not going to take someone else's money or property to make me rich. I don't want it that way," said the soft-spoken cabbie, who was a contractor in Bangladesh until he came to the United States 15 years ago.

He does not own a cab but rents one.

"I enjoy my life. I'm satisfied," said Chowdhury, who is single.

He didn't even mind the meager tip.

"I think some people might be broke," he said. "Or they're distracted."

The woman from Dallas asked that her name not be made public.

T.G.I.F.

I'm so glad it's Friday. It's cold outside and I just want to stay in bed and watch a good British mystery but in the meantime, here are some updates....

*Mamas and Papas Singer Denny Doherty Dies at age 66.- You know the Mamas and the Papas are one of my all time favorite groups. I love all their stuff but Creeque Alley was special to me because they mention Swarthmore College. R.I.P. Denny. Your voice lives on.

* T.R. Knight says 'Grey' co-star Isaiah Washington's used slur about him. - What a disgrace. Totally unacceptable. How do we ever expect children to stop shooting one another in school when adults can't even contain their hate and anger? I hope ABC does the right thing on behalf of T.R. Knight. No one should have to work under these conditions.

* Kid Creole and the Coconuts Are Still Around! - Sometimes I wish one of my old boyfriends from the 1980's would ring me up so we could chat about all the great concerts we saw. I was front and center for Kid Creole and the Coconuts, they were amazing. I'm so thrilled to see they are around and doing their thang.

Here Comes 07'

"Here. It's all right here in my noodle. The rest is just scribbling. Scribbling and bibbling, bibbling and scribbling. " ~ Amadeus

I'm really proud of the changes I made in 06' in case you're wondering. Call them adjustments if you will. My only goal for 07' is too carry on with the positive changes, living one day at a time in gratitude and serenity. It's a process, I know.

*I had to cancel plans with Jimmi, bummer.

*I've been sick in bed & taking antibiotics.

*I'm ready for the President Ford and James Brown funeral coverage to be over.

*Saddam swinging by the hangman's noose is ok with me.

I Need A Hero

Gerald Ford dies at 93. When I hear about people dying at this age i'm annoyed. That's no reflection on the former president, it's just my own personal feelings regarding my situation but that's another story. Kirsten Scott Thomas' character uses a line referring to a dog in the movie Gosford Park, Yes, the ones we hate last forever. In this case, I'm sure the former presidents family is very sad at his passing and are proud of his "contributions" to the country.

When I think about Ford I think of Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme. I remember the assassination attempt as a kid. I was 13 years old and Squeaky was all over the news. Aside from the crazy name, she looked off the wall. My mother was always mentioning Charlie Manson and read the book Helter Skelter. Squeaky was one of your more glamorous presidential assassins. Hinckley was just low key and weird, obsessed with a girl naturally. He wasn't the ranting lunatic Squeaky was. She had the name, the crazy vacant eyes and the frightening history that made her a real character.

I looked up Squeaky on Wikipedia and apparently in 1979 she attacked a fellow inmate with the claw end of a hammer. Ouch. Later, Squeaky busted out of the joint attempting to meet up with Manson, who she had heard had testicular cancer. Now that's not all bad is it? There is something sympathetic about that don't you think? Okay, admittedly all weapons should be kept away from her, but deep down she has feelings, right?

According to Wikipedia, Assassins is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by John Weidman that was based on an idea by Charles Gilbert, Jr. It uses a revue-like style to examine men and women who have attempted to assassinate a U.S. President. Naturally, Squeaky is featured with a song called "Unworthy of Your Love" directed at Manson and the show even starred Neil Patrick Harris!

Squeaky is currently serving life in prison at The Federal Medical Center (FMC) Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas. FMC is notorious for allegations of medical malpractice as well as sexual abuse of inmates by staff. When parole hearings come due, she has waived her right to them.

Let's Start Over Y'all

"Brittney Spears can get married and divorced twice in the sacred rite of marriage within a space of three years and so many of my friends and I can't." ~ The Divine Ms. Jimmi

The Republicans are still smarting and Bush made Rummy his scape goat. Bush says he bears "some responsibility" for the recent down fall of his party. Gee thanks George. Most people's jobs would give them their walking papers for a whole lot less than starting a war based on lies but some responsibility is better than none I guess.

Many are predicting and rightfully so, that politics will be at a stand still for the next two years because Bush will veto everything the Dems come up with now that they run the House and Senate. It is still our chance to put our position on the table which should and always will be a separation of church and state.

Maybe now we can start using some good old fashioned common sense based on lessons that were painfully learned? Maybe we can take a page out of Brittney's Spears lesson book as she finally dumps her bum hanger-on hubby? I liken her marriage to George Bush and his war. No one thought it would work and it continued a lot longer than was necessary. Brit had enough sense to pack it in and cut her loses now. I hope as we live, we learn.

Brittney sayz: I knew it was over y'all when I found out Kevin was a Republican

No Smoking

Finally the ban is on! The King has decreed.... THERE IS NO SMOKING in the kingdom of Philadelphia and I couldn't be more delighted. As a person who is in bars from time to time public smokers are a nightmare for the non smokers like myself. On the drive home I'm smelling my clothes and my hair and it's disgusting, not to mention the fact that one hour of second hand smoke is the equivalent of smoking four cigarettes yourself.

I'm not one to lecture smokers. I grew up in a home filled with second hand smoke, but years of being away from it made me detest the rare occasions it was around me. How about those people who smoke on the dance floor? UGH!It's tough to quit from what I've heard, but there are so many reasons to stop smoking.

I'm Loving the Following Things...

The documentary on PBS about Andy Warhol. I've read everything there is to read on one of my idols, but this documentary is really interesting and super informative. It really gets into Warhol's art.

I said to Jimmi today, when are people going to realize that the gay community dictates our culture? They dominate what we wear and what we look at as beautiful in art, literature and music. They gay community should be revered and not scorned. Clay Akin should feel proud to say,

"I'm a gay man."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Dumpsta' Players are in rehearsal and yours truly has joined the troupe! I've seen their shows, I've attended some events socially with these guys. I really adore these people. I'm so excited to be an official member of this talented off beat bunch. Last night was my first rehearsal with the group. I ran some lines and will be working in a stage hand capacity.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eating healthy has been awesome! I can't tell you how much better I feel since July. The most surprising thing to me has been my abiliy to sleep better since I started eating well. I really feel the energy because I sleep so sound. Last year, it was tough working with the kind of schedule I have. I could not establish a steady sleep patten and it was really hit or miss. I couldn't imagine being able to join the Dumpsta's last year.

Life is about having options. January 2006, I broke away from the old people, places and things and made some changes because I needed too. It is now nine months into the year and I'm delighted with the growth I've seen.

I Think The Heat is Getting Too Me

* The Jews will never let Mel Gibson live this mess down and I don't blame them. What if he said the "N" word? Once people cross these lines you can never erase those words from people's minds. Of course I really hate seeing a multi million dollar celebrity (especially the religious kind) crash and burn.

* Cirque du Soleil was air-conditioned in the big tent but the shopping tent was not. I had tickets for last nights show here in Philly. I couldn't even think straight in this heat but the show was great anyway.

* Fidel Castro's condition is touch and go and now I'm wondering if I will I finally be able to visit Cuba? Yes, I really would love too.

* I think I want to see U2 in concert. It's very rare that I consider any concerts unless I am someones guest.

* MTV is 25 years old. WOW. They started the year I graduated HS and I loved MTV. My friend was the first person I knew with cable TV and a VCR. We taped videos like crazy and watched them over and over. Checkered shoes, skinny neck ties and straight leg black pants were so cool. I use to wear my dad's cardigan too.

* Scoop (The new Woody Allen movie) is really funny... very entertaining. Scarlett Johansson was doing an excellent Julie Kavner (Radio Days, Hannah and Her Sisters) impression throughout the whole movie. I like Scarlett. She is more talented than people think.

This Just In!

Yea, yea Lance Bass is gay. Congrats Lance on coming out now the tabloids can't bore ass you about it anymore.

War is raging on in the middle east and the US can't do shit about it because we jumped into our own little thing with Iraq three years ago. Speaking of which, I just spent $32.00 to fill up my Nissan Altima. How insane is that?

I took my nieces to the Franklin Institute the other day and it was really, really cool. I haven't explored the museum since I was a kid.

Woody Allen's new movie Scoop is being released this week. I'm starting to really enjoy Scarlett Johanson as an actress. Look, I'll die a Woody Allen fan I don't care who he marries.

I had a meeting with my accountant. I've visited my doctors for routine stuff. I feel great, fantastic.

Only three more weeks left of my summer but I have to give myself credit- I really made the most of this summer. I didn't do any of the things I thought I would do (with the exception of a planned vacation) but I did everything I needed to do. I put first things first and I managed to play. I also have a brand new dream destination- Positano, Italy (see picture below).

Cheese steaks on your Birthday

"They don't know how lucky they are. All we're asking them to do is learn the English language," said Geno's owner Joseph Vento, 66. "We're out to help these people, but they've got to help themselves, too."

Today is the The Divine One's birthday and forever it shall be etched in Philadelphia history that the Geno's speak English sign controversy rages on even gaining momentum. Mr. Vento who has a ninth grade education, is put off that some aren't picking up a second language at a faster rate of speed. I called Ms. Jimmi this morning and suggested on this auspicious occasion she should dress in drag, head over to Geno's, order a cheesesteak in Spanish and I would capture it all on digital camera! We could upload it on YOUTUBE and save it for posterity. All we need is a posse to escort us and then it's off to Pat's for the best cheese steak in town!

Happy Birthday Jimmi, you're the best! XOXO

Hi James!

My dear friend James was just deployed to Iraq fighting for the home team (He is from the Netherlands). James tells me parts of the place are actually pretty and if possible he will send me some pictures to post here on UA. When he IM's me and I say the dumbest things like,

"Be safe, watch your back, don't get mixed up in any trouble with civilians."

What else can you say? You feel so helpless for the men and women in harms way. I feel awful for the civilians caught in the crossfire and when I hear about the atrocities of war, I think my God those soldiers must have snapped. It's so tragic.

James is the one who found the hosting for this blog and saved me from countless other computer problems. He loves the Flyers and he even played on a hockey team. He reads this blog from time to time, so I wanted to leave him a message.

I can't help myself so I'll say it again....... love you James, come home safe Hunny. XOXO

American Idol is a show for mental midgets with no taste. Enron terrorists Ken LaY and Jeff Skilling- GUILTY! HooraY, I have off from work this Monday.

See Prince (He is AWESOME!) walk right past Ryan Secrest at the end. I'm sure Prince knows he is way too cool for this dog and pony show, but artists have to sell CD's.

Ps. I have been thinking about Anne and Ivan a lot lately. Both have crossed my mind more than once. If either of you are reading this, I hope you are well. XOXO

2006 Thus Far

Well it's the 16th of january already. This year I have vowed to play close attention to everything. So how is that working out for me so far? Well pretty damned good I'd say. I have been mind boggling busy and challenged, but in a really good way. Information is coming my way in the form of fighter planes but I love it when that happens cause the message is loud and clear. Not surprisingly some new interesting people have turned up in my life and the old ones that remain have been great fun. I didn't make a resolution, I became resolved. Resolved to get more from my life and stop accepting minimal from others and myself.

I Am So In This Week

Tomorrow marks another year of my life. Earlier in the week I wasn’t thrilled. I wasn’t in the mood for a birthday, let alone my own. Silly me. You knew that feeling would pass didn’t you? Suddenly, I’m seeing the Lovemakers later tonight. I’ve been dying to catch them. Friday night, it’s Grape Street Pub for more partying and Saturday I’m going out for dinner. I’m tired all ready but I’ll make the scene all dolled up- come what may.

Some pretty damned amazing things happened to me this past year. Let’s reflect shall we? First off, I got published in the cool female musician mag VENUS. Believe it or not the photo I took for the piece is what I’m most proud of. The editor hit me up for a photograph last minute but my concept worked.

I had such a great time hanging out with Riot Folk Collective and Tom Morello in NYC. Tom is my guitar/activist idol. Right now my brother has my guitar and he better not forget to return it.

Work related stuff usually leaves me under whelmed, but this past year I trained for and received my commercial drivers license (CDL). I love driving. On gorgeous days, it doesn’t feel like a job, the pay is awesome and I have summers off. RAWK!

Lot’s of other things came and went. Letting go and moving on is no minor feat and I’m rather proud of my progress in that area. I deeply appreciate my real friends today. I’ve stayed open and I take risks, but I require the best of the best for myself. I take no shorts. Not everyone is healthy enough to have a front row seat in my life.

Between working with children and my three nieces I’m around a lot of kids now. They are so great I can not tell you how much I laugh with them and how much good energy they give off. Kids are really a blessing. Get some in your life if it is at all possible. They make me a better person on a daily.

In the coming year I want to continue taking risks. This is my life and if I don’t make it an adventure then it’s my lose. I love the lyrics in this Gwen Stefani song...

Tick-tock, tick-tock
Tick-tock, tick-tock

Like a cat in heat, stuck in a moving car
A scary conversation, shut my eyes, can't find the brake
What if they say that you're a climber

Naturally, I'm worried if I do it alone
Who really cares, cause it's your life
You never know, it could be great
Take a chance cause you might grow
Oh, ah, oh

What you waiting for

Thanks Jordan! *I would also like to add that meeting Michael Musto of the Village Voice and VH1 fame was a huge thrill. I'm a very big fan of his and he graciously sent me b-day wishes.

Plans

This month has been a rollercoaster ride. I'm over it. Just really over this entire month. Bring on December even if it does include my birthday and Christmas. One minute it seems nothing is going my way and the next minute everything is smooth sailing and then its all upside down again.

I found another place to live and thats good. I was passed over for more hours at work, thats bad. Found an extra job under the table- awesome! Have to forfeit the addictional money on the new place *groan*. I planned two social engagements then had to take a pass on both due to a cold. Speaking of cold its freezing here in Philly.

Hows about a little cheese with that whine, Liz? Oh sure there is plenty more where that came from. Once I get my screenplay finished, how will I get it made? I don't think I've obsessed on THAT enough today. *Sigh*

This person bothers me too much, that person doesn't bother me enough. I'm taking more vitamins and eating healthier, so why isn't it showing? It's like I want tomorrow's results yesterday. Get back in today girlfriend it's all you've got.

OK enough of this now, I'm getting on my own nerves.

Freedom

Today's thought is:

Pray to God, but row to shore.
--Russian proverb

As each of us gets in touch with the specific ways to serve, it is tempting to judge the importance of our work by comparing it to someone else's achievements. And when that person or group earns more money, receives more praise and recognition, or influences more people, our efforts may feel diminished in stature.

But the truth of the matter is that the spiritual path is not a "numbers game." Ways of serving cannot be compared to one another. Each mission is just as important as the next. All assignments are equal.

Your job is to discover what your purpose is - and then fulfill it. It does not matter how small your contribution may seem. You have a special part to play that no one else can duplicate. All assignments are equal.

Pray to God, but row to shore feels like the answer for me these days. The last time I felt this free and this clear about a matter was when I left my job of seven years. Literally, I felt the weight lift. Sometimes, you are so clear that your heart speaks and a calmness washes over you. When that happens I know I'm on the rght path and there is no turning back on the truth.

There was a time in my life when I argued with that voice. Now on the drop of a dime something speaks, I hear and I go with it. No more negotiations. The trust resonates within. It's a trust like no other. It's perfect guidance and I don't get lost. I let it be my map.

My Season Finale

I hate to see the summer end in spite of the heat of which I am no fan of. Overall it's been fun for me. I worked a little (and that's my favorite kind of work) and hung out with the nieces. I even made it to NYC once even though I almost passed out on the sidewalk from a heat stroke. I watched a lot of reality TV and surfed dish/dirt sites, like the Musto's column in the Village Voice and World of Wonder. The frivilous, meaningless lives of the stars was where my head was at this summer. I can barely allow myself to think about the occupation in Iraq. This Christian Right can piss me off on a daily basis if I let them.

So reality sets in and I start my new job on Sept. 6th. I had an in service day with my new employers yesterday and it went well. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I can put in lots of hassle free time at this place. One bit of shocking news was they have a union. I had no idea. No one in HR mentioned the union to me, I guess thats no too shocking, right? It should make for an exciting year. Lots of drama amongst my co-workers I'm sure. Over the years, I've mastered the art of staying out of that stuff. Mums the word on good ole Liz Fine. If you don't know me outside of work, then you don't know me. Oh I'm pleasent and friendly enough, but people usually think I'm "quiet."

This summer brought about its share of new beginnings for me. I have made some connections with people I value and look forward to working with. I put some highlights in my hair and made myself available to friends in their time of need. Bonding always feels nice. I let some old stuff go and cut myself some slack. I really did'nt post that much this summer because my laptop quit on me and blah, blah, blah.

I'm looking forward to hanging out in NYC, and watching that new prison drama (though nothing will replace OZ). I guess its exciting just knowing that I'm available for whatever the Fall season brings. Don't worry, I'll be keeping you posted.

Hugs*

Armed and Dangerous But In Love

"Mr. Hyatte hollered 'Shoot him!' She opened up fire on the officers, hitting one in the abdomen." ~Police Chief Jim Washam

Have you seen this match made in heaven? I thought Whitney and Bobby were a cute power couple but Mr. and Mrs. Hyatte take the cake or should I say gun? She busted him out of the courtroom yesterday, shooting and killing a guard before her significant other could be taken back to jail. The authorities believe she has been wounded. They met while she was a nurse (The number one co-dependent career choice) at a prison and he was.....big shocker here..... an inmate. She was eventually fired for the liaison and now she is a wanted fugitive from justice with her man. This Bonnie and Clyde duo won't be taken alive and I'm glued to the news hoping to see footage of the shoot out.

Update: Police said Jennifer Forsyth Hyatte, 31, and George Hyatte, 34, gave up without a fight Wednesday night. Dammit!!

I'm Starting To Get Pissed

More bombings in the UK and it's really getting annoying now. Can't these terrorists come up with more creative ways to protest? Stand on the corner and hand out flyers like a normal person. Whats with all these bombing materials? No wonder they are living in caves if thats what they spend their money on. Terrorists, my advice to you is take the money you spend on bombs and buy your families something nice. Everyone will be happier.

A Couple of Points

* Bush nominates a new Supreme Court justice and the homo phobic religious right is chomping at the bit to do away with Roe vs. Wade, a woman's right to choose. I promise you if that happens, I'm going to go all Vera Drake up in here and I mean that!

* Usually I am taken with more serious issues like the one noted above, but this summer I have been spending time reading the World of Wonder site. James St James is there and you know years ago acting as a doorman, James welcomed me and my then b/f into the Tunnel club in NYC. I never forgot him for that and his numerous appearances in Details magazine (the cool NYC nightlife bible). August 1st is James birthday and I'm doing something I have never done before, I'm sending a celeb a birthday present. I hope he loves it and doesn't put in a call to the bomb squad when it arrives.

More destruction at the hands of people who hate the United States and its allies. This is Tony Blair's punishment for getting into bed with George Bush. Not Guilty!

My brother and I held hands as we listened to the verdict. We couldn't believe it and I jumped for joy. Yea I'm happy. I loved MJ back in the 80's, Beat It, Billie Jean, Thriller, yea I loved his first album Off The Wall too. I don't want to believe anything this ugly about an artist, especially a great one. I hope MJ gets the help he needs. I hope the people around him and his family get him into treatment and counseling for his issues.

I was called a bitch at the WaWa this morning because I parked in the handicapped spot. All the spots were taken and the place was packed with the morning rush hour crowd. I pulled in this space out of total desperation. Some guy takes it upon himself to ask, "Are you handicapped? Why no, I answered, but thank you for being so concerned. I'm perfectly able bodied." Then he called me lazy! I walked into the store, saw him at the ATM machine and I went up to him. I tapped him on the arm and said, "Get a life, hotshot." Thats when he yelled bitch at me. I smirked and kept walking, delighted at my ability to get under the skin of this bully. You see I'm not guilty but as is the case with Michael Jackson, it doesn't mean I'm innocent either.

I am sort of happy

a pinch of salt.jpg

Today was the test. The first big event I have managed in my new post. It all happened, nobody died and everyone went away without slapping my face.

I should call that a win.

So why do I feel so empty? Anti climax is a bitch my friends.

I had my emergency evacuation procedure. I had my first aid procedure. I had my child protection policy. I had my security monitoring. The great and the good left unmolested by terrorists.

Bit of a shame really. All that work and worry for nothing. Now no one knows how well my emergency strategy would work.

(FYI my strategy was to get some kid to shout out ‘DANGER!’ while I run out the building dressed as a nun – awesome you will agree)

We Have A Pope!

For the second time in my lifetime, we have a new Pope. In 1978 when Pope John Paul II was elected, there were no cell phones, no computers and a lousy speaker system at the Vatican. The fact that he was Polish and not Italian was news worthy amoung Catholics.

Wouldn't it be amazing if the new pope, Pope Benedict XVI would allow women priests? Wouldn't it be amazing if priests would be permitted to marry? No longer a sin, birth control. Can you imagine? No my friends the church won't change. Not one little bit.

This conclave was all about secrecy. The Catholic church is all about secrecy. Don't we know in these modern times that we are only as sick as our secrets?

Food For Thought

If you're like me, you tire of mainstream media as a news source. I never feel like I'm getting the truth or being told anything news worthy. Check out some worth while sites and keep and open mind.

Other people in the world are suffering everyday. Learn more about the genocide in the Sudan.

Marty Tankleff sits in prison with overwhelming evidence of his innocence. Yes, it happens even in America.

One People's Project
is a site out of New Jersey that will keep you up to date on underground racist groups that incite violence.

A Royal mess

UKComemorative1.jpg

What the hell happened to us?

There was a time, not so long ago, when we could proudly boast the one thing we could do well was pageantry. Well that’s over now which anyone who saw footage of the royal welding (sic) today will testify.

What a f***ing shambles! Right from the start it was badly done. originally it was announced they were to wed in Windsor Castle until Chas’s office discovered that, in order to comply with the law, the chapel had to get a licence to hold a civil wedding – which means that for the period of the licence any of the great unwashed could request to be married in the castle thus there was the possibility that minor royals could come into close proximity with the working stiffs who pay for their upkeep. This, of course, is not to be borne – what next? Charabancs of lower class oiks munching home made sandwiches on the camomile lawn? Gaudily dressed Chavs swilling down Lambrini with the bride and groom? Americians?

No, we will have none of that! So the whole mess was moved to the registry office to keep the commoners at bay. And then Queenie stamps her foot, throws her toys out of the pram and says she will not be going to the ceremony. Reason is she hates Camilla (Milly to her friends –“That bloody woman” to the royals) bur reason given is some crap about being the head of the church she cannot go to a registry office…

Then the Pope died. Dammed inconvenient!

He was probably holding on just to spite them after all those years of work trying to bring the Church of England back into the fold has come to nothing, so why not shaft the leader before I go? thought the Pope. Well it worked after announcing nothing will change Chas then says ‘ok move it forward one day’ but Queenie holds out for a six MONTH wait (give her more time to talk the idiot boy out of it…) so there are a string of conflicting press releases alongside news pieces about poor shopkeepers who are packed to the gills with wedding merchandise from tea towels and mugs to ……well, bigger tea towels and mugs all with the wrong date (personality I would have hired a bunch of immigrants with permanent markers to cross out the wedding and put ‘POPE DIES’ on the crap – the photo of Camilla works just as well as the Popes death mask) If they hold out for a hundred years it might still come good.

The event was P*** poor with little support or public interest in the wedding of two ancient adulterers who have been shagging since God was a boy with the hardest job being the news crews trying to drown out the boos from the crowd (I use that term loosely) and as to her taking the title Duchess of Cornwall?

Forgive my ignorance of protocol but when you marry a person of title and you inherit theirs the senior title is the one you must be known by. Chas is the Duke of Cornwall but more than that he is a Prince – the Prince of Wales. That makes Camilla Princess of Wales – just like the woman whose husband she was having an affair with and now has taken her position. In taking a lesser title their guilt is manifest – if all was well and you were secure in your actions then why not take the big title? Not that I hold much of a candle for dear, dead, Di but it was interesting to note that in the service following the wedding (the bit the Queen felt able to attend ) they had to renounce their sins – not something you normally see the royals forced to do and perhaps a requirement from the church or they would not go through with the charade.
All in all it was a cheap, threadbare attempt that was badly planned (even I knew for the past few months the Pope was to pop off at any minute so this was a bad time to make plans) and poorly communicated. The populace was expected to do what they were told and listen to their ‘betters’

When the Queen goes expect the wheels to fall off the state carriage, no shot for the 21 gun salute and Duchess/Princess Cammy late for the planting due to measuring for new carpets and thumbing through the IKEA catalogue back at the palace

WWJD?

What would Julia do? I just finished watching Closer. Synopsis: Julia Roberts has to choose between Clive Owen and Jude Law so she does what many females would do, she screws 'em both. I give this movie 3 stars. The British eye candy was the best thing about it.

Johnnie Cochran has passed away and I'm stunned when people say they didn't like him because he got OJ off. What kind of nonsense is that? I mean it's not like he paid off or threatened jury members, the man was just the most brilliant person in the courtroom. I had profound respect for his ability after the Simpson trial.

I always say the great thing about being a defender of the down trodden is that you challenge the powers that be to step up thier game. Simply put did Chris Darden do the job Johnnie Cochran did? No and thats because prosecutors charge the majority of defendants who only have public defenders. He doesn't have to be that great. Enter Johnnie Cochran who has the means to dig up a witness from 10 years ago to testify the detective freely used the "N" word. Johnnie Cochran makes a cop look bad and the jury believes he was corrupt.

By the way, did you know Johnnie Cochran's son became an LA police officer? Maybe partically thanks to his dad the LA police department became something worth joining.

All Sold Out

Well, Audioslave sold out here in Philly in 12 minutes! Damn! Not that I adore Audioslave, but you know I adore Rage and this would be my only chance to see the guys with my idol Tom Morrello. If anyone has an extra tic and wants company, email me. Seriously.

Just thinking about how much things have changed. The other night I was considering what I'm no long focused on. Things such as....

1. Learning guitar. Unemployment happened and it got put on the back burner.
2. Meeting new people and putting effort into it. I actually meet new people all the time, what was I thinking with that one?
3. Running here and there. Between low funds and a weak constitution, I have been homebound and keeping warm.
4. Attending lectures at Swarthmore College. I haven't done that in SO long.
5. The blogfather, Justin Hall no longer blogs. He told me that he is exploring other creative options and I respect that, but I miss Links.

I went to two Easter egg hunts today with the sister in law and the kiddies. My suggestion... if you aren't competative, avoid these things. Maybe there is a good reason I don't have kids. The parents are coaching the kids on the side line how to grab the most candy and tee shirts. This is SUV country people, its not like these parents can't go buy there trolls candy and tee shirts anytime they want. My niece Jessica is a creative/Princess sort, like her Aunt Lizzy. We were a bad match cause neither one of us is aggressive with this stuff. We both think in terms of buying what we want. Poor Jessica didn't get much and her Mom held me responsible. I dont think I will be invited back Easter egg hunting next year, thankfully.
Girls

Friday night I did go to a free concert and met a former coworker there. It was truly an amazing concert with the group I have volunteered for in the past. I was just so dead tired. I really wanted to leave early but thought it would be rude.

I need something to spark my fire. I feel like I'm selling out myself.

I Got It Made

"I'm kinda spoiled
cuz everything I want I got made
I wanted gear--got everything from cotton to suede
I wanted lead--I didn't beg I just got laid
My hair was growin too long, so I got me a fade
and when my dishes got dirty, I got Cascade
when the weather was hot, I got a spot in the shade" ~ Special Ed, I Got It Made

It's freezing outside and I still have a cold. Can't seem to shake it. Today I was pulling out of my old high school's parking lot and Pat Benetar was blasting on the radio. I had to laugh to myself when I thought of being back in that school many moons ago and watching PB videos on MTV. I also heard Special Ed as I clicked around stations on the radio and I remembered that Macolm Jamal Warner directed one of his videos. Why is information like that locked in my head?

I haven't made out to the bookstores to search out the recent issue of Venus magazine of which I have contributed. That certainly isn't like me so I'll try to look for it this weekend if I can get motivated.

I joined NetFlix because I can no longer tolerate that corporate slime Blockbuster. Speaking of corporate slime, at least Martha Stewart dropped some weight in prison. If that had been me, I would have counted the whole experience totally worth while just for that reason alone.

I think I'll make my way back to the big apple when the weather breaks. I miss it there and I want to see whats happening.

The Greatest Website of All Time

I tee hee like a school girl whenever I think about the courthouse employees getting there palms greased as they manage to slip confidential documents to The Smoking Gun. If anyone knows another way TSG "obtains" these documents, please don't tell me. As a former office worker I prefer my little greased palm fantasy.

Let's Start The Show

So Michael Jackson's witness list reads like the list at the door of Studio 54. I for one am dying to see a boozy Liza Minnelli stagger in the courtroom with dark shades and a fur coat, slurring her words with one hand on the Bible. How about Elizabeth Taylor? A shell of her former beauty, I can picture the nursing home attendant wheeling a bedazzled Liz into the courtroom as she defends the elfin MJ with her dying breath. It would be like something straight out of a Tennessee Williams play! Today the King of Pop was rushed to the hospital with the flu. (Funny, but I have been walking around for weeks with tubercular like symptoms and still I trudge to work). The judge is giving Michael ample time to feel better. When I was a kid we waited with baited breath, for the new fall season of TV shows. Right now thinking about this trial, I have those same pangs of excitement in my stomach.

Disconnected

In more ways than one, I'm feeling disconnected. Between not accessing my laptop and sleep deprivation, I'm living on coffee these days. My phone service is down and my eyes are at half mast. Slowly, slowly pulling it all together but its taking longer than I expected. I'm truly enjoying most of my days, but taking it a day at a time. A call to the phone company may resolve some things, a better sleep pattern will resolve other things, but the upcoming three day weekend is gratefully anticipated.

Oops I Did It Again

Have you ever started a brand new job and then been 45 mins. late? Well, thats what I did today. You see I'm working a split shift now and I was on time in the AM (6:15) and late for the afternoon. Did I get called on the carpet? You better believe it. I totally owned up to it being my mistake. I didn't blame anything or anyone or make excuses (no deaths in the family etc.). I apologized and assured my employer it would not happen again (fingers crossed). What really happened to tardy Liz you might be asking? It's this simple; I laid down for a nap (see AM start time) didn't set the alarm and overslept. Period. Tomorrow is another day, right?

Justin Hall Makes the Paper (Again)

Read the article in the New York Times about blogging and all the pleasures and pain that go with it. The article mentions the whos who of blogging culture including my friend, Justin Hall. (Sorry log in necessary, but worth it.)

I am well acquainted with Justin and have benefited from his expertise for a couple of years. "The blogfather" has always rallied round me with weblogging. He is a very generous friend and a wonderful teacher.

I have modeled my blogging after his. Mr. Hall is my mentor.

Three Points And I'm Out

Today, I was going to meet a friend and a cop caught me hanging a U-turn. He pulled me over and acted really pissed. He was ready to slam me with a moving violation and that would have been three points on my license. The trouble with that is I'm going for my CDL and that would rule me out entirely! I broke down and cried on Philly's finest. No shit, I really did. I cried and told him my whole sad story. He was stunned and told me to calm down. Punching my digits into a laptop he said,

"Relax, I'm going to let you go because I see you have a clean record."

I reached into his car window, shook his hand and thanked him. Believe me the tears that came next were tears of joy.

11/16/04 Update:
I found out today that I would not lose my license immediately. I would first have to report the violation to my boss and they determine whether or not to keep me on. I do believe the officer was being tru
