McCain -- As Hip as the One He's Inclined to Break

Note to John McCain: Britney and Paris? Really? Dude, that's soooooo 2005.

This just in -- there's a whole new crop of worthless undeserving "famous for being famous" people to choose from now -- Kim Kardashian? Heidi Montag?

Just because you're over the hill, doesn't mean you can't watch "The Hills."

10 Things That Are Ready For A Comeback

1. Sleep masks.

I've been wearing a sleep mask since the days when you could only find them at Victoria Secret and they were a hard-to-find, pricey little item. Sleep masks are wonderful and travel easily guaranteeing a good nights sleep any where you lay your head.

2. Powder Puffs.

When I was a child, I was always, always given a powder puff as a gift on every occasion. Now as an adult I see the value in buffing powder across my décolletage and any where else I desire the comfort of powder.

3. Dinner Candles.

I'm not talking about those bulky candles in a jar, I'm talking about the elegance of candles scattered around a room on any given evening...just because.

4. Buffing Nails.

More and more I'm seeing people with natural nails and I love it. Bare nails that are buffed to a high gloss is elegant for both men and woman. On the other hand, I've seen some pretty scary nail art especially on talon long toe nails- UGH!

5. 1960's Make-up.

There I said it! The neutral face and lips with stunning windows to the soul. 1960's make-up is something that makes any woman (or man) look sophisticated. I catch myself applying this look more times than I care to mention.

6. Townie Bikes

Less intimidating than those mountain bikes, anyone could picture themselves tooling around town on one of these charmers.

7. Train Travel.

I'm not talking about broken down, urine soaked train stations. I'm talking about money being spent to make train travel a pleasure. Certainly the airlines are a washout, but an elegant train station with loads of baggage handlers would make for another worldly experience in travel not to mention open up hundreds of new jobs. Customer service must be a priority!

8. Film Noir.

With all the crap Hollywood loves to rip off and remake it seems to me the genre of Film Noir would lend itself perfectly to the crime-dramas of today. Often described as;
"a dark street in the early morning hours, splashed with a sudden downpour, lamps form haloes in the murk in a walk-up room, filled with the intermittent flashing of a neon sign from across the street, a man is waiting to murder or be murdered."
Who wouldn't pay to see this especially for those of us on super-hero burnout.

9. Caftan Dresses.

Lately we have only seen pregnant celebrities in these dresses, but wouldn't they be fabulous on any woman (or man) any time?

10. Reading Outside.

With costs the way they are a vacation is not high on people's priority lists. Why not revisit the idea of sitting on a deck, porch, balcony or court yard with a good book and a tall glass of ice tea.

Separation Anxiety Brings Ultimate Serenity

This has been a heartbreaking summer for me but the good news is many close friends know whats going on with me and in the past few days (when I have been feeling especially sad) people that love me have said the same thing over and over. I'm getting the message loud and clear- I have to put my well being first and stop doing for others who are incapable of showing up for me.

I recognize that doing for people who aren't healthy is ultimately the same as doing for a drug addict and then being shocked when they lie or steal from you. Unfortunately in this case it means I have to distance myself from individuals that I dearly love. Putting others above my own well-being is not the way I choose to live today. I see a clear path to a wonderful state of being and that serenity will come by focusing on myself. Once again I find myself in a place where all the effort I was putting into another person must be put into me.

* By the way, I want to make note of one other thing: While this has been a heartbreaking summer so far, some amazing miraculous things have happened that I never thought I would see topped with the blessing of learning patience.

The World Could Once Again Stand With US

"The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes, natives and immigrants, Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand," Obama in Germany 7/24/08

So many Americans love Europe. I don't know one American who has been to any part of Europe and not fallen completely in love with her beauty and cultural. The truth is many Europeans love America and our culture as well. Many Europeans know that Americans are basically good, generous people however the Bush administration has made it hard to embrace the United States these past seven years. Maybe just maybe, if we can somehow manage to elect Barack Obama we can restore the good standing America once had before the war criminals of the Bush administration robbed us. Maybe we can once again visit the homelands of our forefathers and not have to pretend to be Canadian.

**Update: Sharp Reversal For Obama With Hispanic Voters

Obama is rated favorably by 76% of Latino registered voters, making him much more popular among that voting group than McCain (44% favorable) and President Bush (27% favorable). He now appears to be even more popular than Hillary Clinton among Latinos (73% favorable).

Banksy Unmasked: A Graffiti Mystery

"Banksy lurks in the shadows, outside the klieg lights of the celebrity he's generated. He shrinks from cameras like a vampire from the sun. The graffiti artist, whose work has fetched millions of dollars at auction houses from the likes of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has never been publicly identified." (Read the story here.)

Brideshead Revisited

I am a little bit obsessed with the remake of “Brideshead Revisited." In fact I plan on renting the 80's version ASAP and I may even pick up the book by Evelyn Waugh. 1920's wealthy London with homosexual overtones? Who can resist! (Check out the site)

Patience is a Virtue

"I can learn to relax and stop trying to force things to happen. I can't control everything in my life, and today I will stop trying. I don't have to achieve all my goals in one day or even one month.

As hard as it may seem, for today, I will be a patient person." ~Time to Break Free by Judith R. Smith

Very Much in Love

Question #1
You need at least one VERY to fall in love. For example, it helps if your honey is VERY smart, or VERY good-looking, VERY caring or VERY funny, etc. Basically, you need to see at least one magical, heart-fluttering quality about this person that makes him or her stand out for true love to spring forth. Does your partner have at least one VERY special thing which makes you all a-flutter?

Question #2
Although finding one VERY in your partner is VERY GOOD, finding two VERY aspects can be VERY BAD. For example, if your partner is VERY, VERY GOOD-LOOKING... or VERY, VERY RICH or VERY, VERY FUNNY, this person might be trouble--might have a super-huge ego or be super-annoying due to an extra dosage of that quality. Does your partner have any doubly VERY aspects that you see as being potential relationship-zappers? (source)

OBITUARY: Rocky Aoki

Father of famous siblings, Devon and DJ Steve Aoki has passed away at the age of 69. I have always been a fan of Steve and Devon's work as well as the restaurants of their father. Rocky Aoki sounds like a colorful character who lived life to the fullest. The family has my deepest condolences.

Miracles

All the growth happens in the void. Once again I find myself rendered to my knees and I'm forced back to a place of self-reflection. I hate looking at myself, doesn't everyone?

Dealing with sick people who deliberately want to cause pain only makes me more determined to survive. Through the physical pain and heartbreak of the past eight days, I already see the positives. Things I never thought would happen have happened. As doors close, windows are opening. I'm just going to keep doing what I know works taking things one day at a time and accepting this opportunity to grow. I know things will come full circle they always do.

Trendy Eatery "Newsroom" is Closed

I ate at the Newsroom last summer while on vacation in LA. We really enjoyed our lunch and it was fun to see the paparazzi walk up and down Robertson, stalking the famous.

After getting slapped by the City Health Department with a "C" rating for having mold in an ice machine, gnats in bar glasses, chipping paint and a fridge that wasn't cold enough the Newsroom Cafe shut down for the day for "repairs."

Today's Thought: Doing My Part

Too often, we tell ourselves the only way to get from point A to point B—or Z—is to tense up, obsess a little (or a lot), and live in fear and anxiety until what we want takes place.
That isn’t the path to success. It’s the path to fear and anxiety.
Accept. Relax. Breathe. Let go. Trust yourself, God, and the universe to manifest the best possible destiny when the time is right for you.
God, help me ~ More Language of Letting Go, By: Melodie Beattie

UPDATE: Since first posting this reading this morning, I am once again shown when dealing with toxic people you won't walk away feeling good. I welcome the opportunity to distance myself from family members that weren't there for me anyway. Letting go and letting the universe work it out, I feel supported and well.

The Summer of Awful

"The Summer of 2008 -- what I'm beginning to refer to as The Summer of Awful -- is shaping up to be one of those cinematic blocks of time that's sure to become the epic setting of books and movies of the future. The heat, the floods, the gas prices, the stock market, the unemployment, the foreclosures, the Olympics in China, the tainted tomatoes, the wild fires, the torture, the eavesdropping, the war, the vanishing Arctic... All of it magnified by this historical presidential campaign. The Summer of Awful. I can't recall a summer in recent memory more overpopulated by history and awfulness and insanity -- stacked up to our eyeballs and so directly impacting each of us on some very personal level." ~ By Bob Cesca (source)
