One more clip for the road and who can ever get enough of Andy Samberg, Adam Levine (Maroon 5), or Jake Gyllenhaal? All three of these guys are Jewish and Adam has been friends with Jake Gyllenhaal since Kindergarten. This clip is pretty funny!
Rare footage of Micheal Jackson, James Brown and Prince. A must see clip! Via Kayne West's blog
Bill Maher lampoons Bill O’Reilly trying hard to fit in with the Black Community after his recent remarks.
"One day long ago, it was okay to wish for an end to a war, without being accused of hating the soldiers who were fighting it. It was once a given that socialized public education, police, fire departments, roads, parks, national defense and the constitutionally mandated General Welfare & Domestic Tranquility were simply a part of the American way of life and would always be there." ~ Bob Cesca
As Britney trashes into a Starbucks in one of her famous get-ups, the sheriffs department sees fit to escort her through a trail of paps. Shouldn't this sheriff be trying to score chicks on his own time and not on the taxpayers dime?
The "real" deal, the originals in their hey day. I love it when they call the Queen "our figure head " that's hot! And Steve Jones- OMG!
Can you believe this clown? Of course you can. It's hardly worth giving him the time or attention, but on the other hand we must continue to shine a light in the darkness.
Bill O'Reilly blathered on about eating in a restaurant in Harlem and being shocked that it is a black owned business and black folks mind their manners in public. O'Reilly precedes to lecture his listeners on how wrong racism is. Yes Bill WE know apparently YOU were the one having the epiphany at the tender age of sixty. Once again another old geezer who puts his foot in his mouth and shows the ceaseless arrogance of not only his generation but the right wing.
O'Reilly's "no spin zone" program on Fox will be filled with all kinds of spin as to how his sentiments were taken out of context. Bill was stunned that black people weren't yelling the MFer word, were nicely dressed and acted respectful just like white folks! Sorry to break it to you Bill, most of us don't expect to hear ANYONE using the M Fer word in public. The shock would come about if someone of any race did use that word in a public place. I'm suggesting after today O'Reilly's friend Al Sharpton (The person O'Reilly treated to dinner in Harlem) take Bill on a few outings. Apparently, this poor soul doesn't get out much.

I've been listening to this track a lot lately.
I don't understand,
Why do I stress a man,
When there's so many bigger things at hand,
We could've never had it all,
We had to hit a wall,
So this is an inevitable withdrawal.
Even if I stop wanting you
A perspective pushes true,
I'll be some next man's other woman soon.
I couldn't play myself again,
I should just be my own best friend,
Not fuck myself in the head with stupid men.

Do you believe Britney's latest weave? She wore that dead animal on her head and that get up into a public rest room at Quiznos yesterday. Girlfriend must get her hair done in Iran where they don't have any gays cause this "do" is a hot mess!

Have you seen The Pick-up Artist on VH1 and this douche named Mystery? He is supposed to be a world class pick-up guy who teaches other social misfits how to score. The TV show is jaw dropping. All this talk about getting laid, wing men and negs. Mystery has a special jargon for cruising bars and talking to chicks. He basic theory is act disinterested and the women will flock to you. I guess that could work on some bimbo with fifty I.Q. points.
Mystery himself looks like someone stuck in a time warp some where between the late 80's and early 90's. He is Tommy Lee meets Prince knocking on 40! He wears eye liner, face piercings and black nail polish. He wears those 90's ski caps with goggles and ear phones around his neck like a DJ.
Writing this post reminds me of a little encounter I had recently. I was at a bar and couldn't help but over hear a conversation between three men. The talker had his back to me and was going on and on about some girl he was letting stay at his house. He was pretty funny and I started smiling and giggling behind him, his buddies saw me. A few minutes later when I walked away with my drink I continued to make eye contact with the group. Mr. Gabby was still oblivious but I knew his buddies would clue him in on me. The evening continued. A couple of hours later my friends and I were gearing up to leave. Out of no where Mr. Gabby is suddenly circling me like he is secret service and I'm Squeaky Fromme pointing a loaded .45-caliber pistol. I couldn't believe it. This bone head had all evening to strike up a conversation but did he? No. He was orbiting around me now as I'm getting ready to leave and making me feel really uncomfortable. I was determined to not say a word because I figured he was hoping I would. My friends were finally ready and I hustled out the door as swiftly as possible feeling relieved.
When I was really hanging out in my 20's here are a few key things I looked for in a guy when out at a bar or club....
* The man should be well dressed and well groomed. I hated men who were too casual in a club setting or shabby looking. What a turn off.
* How quickly would he offer to buy me a drink? The Liz rule: don't tie up my time chatting and not offer me a drink.
* Did he offer his home phone number or just a pager number and did he want my number (Remember, this was when I was in my 20's - pagers were big)? The Liz Rule: Pager numbers were for guys who were running a bunch of women at the same time.
* Was he respectful? Watch the cursing and don't go on and on about my looks or body- that's a turn off.
I'm just not ready for it.
Checking the calender for the next holiday.
I'm one of those people who would be so happy to not work.
Work breaks up my other wise pleasant day.
I had a lovely weekend.
Hope you did too.
Do you think you're insured? Do you toss around the antiqued expression, "I have good health insurance" ? Well you better think again. The health insurance crisis in this country is affecting you, yes you the insured if you come down with a serious illness like Cancer.
"Universal Health Care is what they have in England and Canada and Spain and Germany and Japan and, well, every civilized nation in the world but ours. It’s single payer health care provided free of charge with no need for interference by a greed-crazed insurance and pharmaceutical industry. Is that so freaking hard to understand?"
This brings me around to my next point. Did you hear presidential fore runner Hillary Clinton came up for a plan for Universal Health Care? Well you better think again. What she came up with was a way for all of us to pay for health care that doesn't cover anything serious. Isn't that what we already do? Politics as usual Hill.
Read this little girls sign. It's shaped like a mushroom because she lives in the number one mushroom growing place in the country. By the way, guess who has been picking your mushrooms low these many years? This is what I love about the immigrants. A restored working class that hasn't been brain washed. This is the US now and the Republicans will tell us the immigrants are to be feared just like they told us gay marriage was something we should fight off. Brown is the new pink.
marla writes to Rosie O'Donnell on her blog:
Were u offended by Kathy G’s remarks about Jesus? I think she’s funny, but maybe I’m de-sensitized to Jesus jokes…I’m not a Chirisitan either…
Rosie replys: kathy is an old school irish catholic girl
she is freaking funny
By now most people have heard about Miss Kathy and her Emmy award acceptance speech. She said she wouldn't thank Jesus like everyone else, in fact Jesus can suck it. She goes on to say that the award is her god.
Catholic groups are up in arms and denouncing her. Here is the thing, like Rosie O'Donnell and millions of other recovering Catholics... we get it Kath. It was a joke. Years and years in Catholic school put you in one of two camps. Either you're in the "good Catholic" camp or you're in the wicked ass sense of humor camp. Trust me, Kathy could care less what the Catholic church thinks of her. In fact I'm sure she would suggest they get their pedo priests and closet case nuns in order first. Can you tell which camp I ended up in?

Kathy and her god
I feel the need to thank God it's Friday. What a week it's been, very tiring. Day after day getting up before the break of dawn and finding my way around a new vehicle. It's very hard. Harder than I ever expected. A lot of times I can't believe I'm doing it and then I remember it's better than being in a cubicle.
I could have "plans" for tonight, but I want to go shopping before the weekend. A friend and I are doing lunch tomorrow and in the evening I'm taking the kids to our neighborhood block party. I need something to wear; a white shirt perhaps?
We got a newsletter from work today and first let me say this, I do my job and I go home. I don't know anyone at my job except my bosses and one or two mechanics. I actually ADORE that aspect of the job after working in a hen house(AKA an office full of women) for seven years. When I need to communicate with my boss' I email them from home. Don't you love it? I sure do. Now with that said, it's shocking what my boss actually needs to tell some people.
"Please don't wear clothes with holes and/or stains to work."
"If you use the break room to change your babies diaper, please dispose of the diaper properly."
"Please don't leave food on the floor in the break room."
Huh? WTF! Americans can be so trashy. We are known for over regulating, but look what happens when we don't make something a law or a rule. Pigs, slobs and criminals take full advantage. The Brits at least care about manners. I was really disgusted when I read that and I felt bad for what my boss' must deal with everyday on top of the volume of work they have.
I have a long afternoon ahead of me but it's Friday. Afterwards I'll go shopping then I'm in for the night, no longer steady mobbin. Never mind, that's just a lyric from an old Ice Cube song.
* Lindsey Lohan- At least she is in treatment again and seems to be taking it seriously this time. We shall see. Word on the street is she is through with Hollywood for now and that would make sense if she has decided to put her recovery first.
* Britney Spears- She is resistant to treatment and seems to be in denial. A judge warned her to stay clean and sober and she was clubbing in LA the next night. A lot of damage can be done in that denial stage. Her life is unraveling very quickly and she is only 26 years old.
*Lauryn Hill- Totally off the deep end and many around her confess it is substance abuse. She seems to have some mental health issues as well which will make a potential journey back a long one.
*Amy Winehouse- A tragedy waiting to happen at this point. Only 23 years old and no where near getting treatment, Amy may not make it through another drug run. Sad.

I'm always writing and thinking about building the relationship with my nieces. I'm lucky, I get to spend a lot of time with them and I know the memories I have with my mother as a kid have shaped the person I am today.
When I was a little girl, we didn't have a lot of money for travel but every year my mother would take me to NYC for dinner and a show. As a result, I have built my life around a love of NY and theatre. I have shared this passion with every important person in my life.
Yesterday we finalized the plans. We are taking the kids to NYC in December, one day before my birthday. I can't wait to see the Xmas decorations, Rockefeller Center, eat lunch, see a show the whole touristy/fun deal. My nieces are 6 and 8 years old and they will love it. I know they will want to go back as soon as possible and Aunt Lizzy can tempt them with trips to NYC for years to come! We are so excited to continue this family tradition- we can't wait to go.
This whole OJ mess unfold. It's like 12 years ago again with the media coverage.
The whole Britney mess. Her addiction is spiraling out of control. It's that simple and that complicated. I don't envy her family.
Dear God help me, but yes- I'm watching The Hills with some form of dedication.
The Night of the Iguana (1964) on DVD. Based on a play by Tennessee Williams.
This great blog written by a southern, queer disabled woman of color. She goes by the name, misscripchick. Cute and smart all rolled into one. I'm loving her blog.

And finally......I'm watching my eyebrows get thicker.
Click here to find me and add me if you so desire.
Click here to read all about it. I will say this on the subject- White folks have never gotten over OJ getting away with murder. I'm not saying that we should get over it, but we do seem to get over the innocent left behind bars to rot. It's like outta sight outta mind for those folks. OJ's ego will be his down fall.
Having a 94 year old grandmother teaches me a lot about aging. What I'm realizing now is the problem isn't aging and living a long life, but what you did with your time when you were younger. Some things in life are earned.
Today, I see my relationships as money in the bank so to speak, especially with those younger members of the family. I'm building something that will be the foundation for my elder years. Now could be the time that makes all the difference between sitting alone in a chair or getting phone calls and going out to lunch with "the kids."
Now one wants to think about growing old alone. The amount of time on this planet is not our decision, but the quality of time is something we can effect.
Tonight I got some fan mail and to this person I say....Thank you!

When I was in LA eating dinner and shopping on Robertson Blvd. the place was crawling with paparazzi. How did I recognice the paparazzis? Well, many of them were not only carrying cameras they were wearing TMZ tee shirts. Now you too can sport a TMZ tee. It doesn't get more L.A. than this and don't forget your panties!
This commercial for cologne is banned in the U.S. and currently being shown in Europe (naturally). While I'm no fan of Diddy's chipmunk face, I like the commercial in relation to the name of the fragrance, Unforgivable. I like the mood and especially the music. I wonder who the composer is?
"At first I assumed maybe it was some weird security drill? A few of us asked what was going on, and got terse answers, like, "Security review." WTF? 5 minutes passed. 10, 15, 20. The two teen Japanese tourists about ten feet behind me looked utterly dazed -- welcome to America, guys."
Going to the airport can be a downright frightening and humiliating experience since 9/11 and that's due to the treatment we receive from our fellow Americans! I'm still unnerved at these so-called security check points and like a character in Schindler's List, I feel grateful when I get through without anyone addressing me. Why are we tolerating this again? Give some people a paycheck and they are willing to do just about anything even to a fellow citizen. I would imagine it was a lot like that when the Nazi's were recruiting members.

In September 2006, a group of African American high school students in Jena, Louisiana, asked the school for permission to sit beneath a "whites only" shade tree. There was an unwritten rule that blacks couldn't sit beneath the tree. The school said they didn't care where students sat. The next day, students arrived at school to see three nooses (in school colors) hanging from the tree.

Thanks Pax, a great photo idea to commemorate the day.

My initial reaction: O*M*G- That belly, that hair!
I watched Britney last night on the VMA's. It's unanimous at this point, her performance was atrocious. I watched Sarah Silverman afterwards and then I couldn't take another minute of that hot mess of a show. I read this morning Justine Timberlake is calling for MTV to start showing videos again. PLEASE yes, like the good ole' days. With the exception of The Hills (That's another story) I'm over MTV's programing.
My feeling is MTV used Britney. They hyped this "comeback" (She is only 26) within an inch of it's life and then let Sarah Silverman rip her to sheds immediately afterwards. (I read they were really desperate for ratings this year.) The truth is Britney needs to let it go now. She has tons of money and two children that need a mother. Her peers, Justin and Christina are different types of talent, she peaked sooner.
My free advice to Britney is as follows....
* Don't beat yourself up over last nights performance, it's over now.
* Get clean and sober. Sorry dear, it is* that obvious.
* Leave the limelight with the intentions of driving your children to school everyday.
* Leave the men alone and get into a relationship with yourself. Men aren't your strong point.
* Take up a hobby, invest your money and enjoy your life.
Why don't people want to gracefully move into the next phase of life? Why do they see it as a bad thing? Britney has children, she is another phase of life. When you hit your thirties, you're in another phase of life. I know it's scary but life is change and change is healthy. Sometimes the changes feel like a death. Maybe they are marked by a death, but in the midst of the pain we can decide which pain is life on life's terms and which pain is optional.
I rather enjoy people like Mos Def. He has the courage of his convictions. While I may not entirely agree with him, I respect him for caring enough to have a point of view. And I do agree with him about the police.
Another blogger was writing that he was in Vegas and so tempted to have pizza. After losing tons of weight, he was afraid of even sampling the former addictive substance. Boy can I relate. It sounds crazy to some of you I know, but for me pizza was a food I sabotaged myself with for years.
I haven't had pizza for over a year now and I've lost a bunch of weight. Pizza is nothing less than an addiction for me. I was thinking back the other day to how far I would drive for a "great" pizza. I was literally eating pizza several nights a week and wondering why I was maintaining my weight.
The other day I did something I never, ever, ever do. I bought a shirt that I knew was too small for me. I didn't even bother to try it on. I wondered if the sales girl thought I had a severe case of body dysmorphia. It was adorable and on sale. It is an XL but it's a J. Crew XL so as some of you know an XL=10-12 at J. Crew. I think I have hope that I could fit into the shirt someday and that's amazing to me. Today, I want that hope and not the pizza.

It’s Our Healthcare.org has launched a new campaign against Blue Cross’s efforts to block healthcare reform in California:
Blue Cross is spending $2 million on a campaign here in California to derail healthcare reform in the Legislature — the same Blue Cross that makes more money here, and spends less on patients, than any other big insurer. Earlier this year, Blue Cross shipped almost a billion dollars in our healthcare dollars to its corporate parent in Indiana, despite hundreds of complaints about premium increases, benefit cuts, cancelled policies, and other dangerous business practices.
That staggering profit, made at the expense of healthcare consumers in California, has made Blue Cross the poster child for why we need health care reform.

This is a bit of a departure for me, as I’m not in the habit of writing fan letters.
In fact, the last one I sent was a bubble-lettered note to the actor Jon Cryer about 20 years ago in the wake of his earth-moving (for a 16-year-old alt-chick from the suburbs) portrayal of Duckie Dale in “Pretty in Pink.”
But under the circumstances, I thought it was OK to err on the side of sycophancy. So …
Thank God you’re still with us, brother.
Please don’t try that again. We need you.
And by we, I mean the world.
As you well know, these are precarious, fraught times we live in, and the one thing we cannot bear to lose is our sense of humor.
To paraphrase that great celluloid shaman Elwood Blues, you, Mr. Wilson, are on a mission from God.
Just a ‘TV friend’
Laughter is carbonated holiness, and you, therefore, are a holy man, at least according to the theology of Anne Lamott. She’s my favorite writer, a funny lady who is as acquainted with melancholy as she is with humor.
I once asked Annie whether she thought we — people — could be grace for one another. “I think we can hold space for other people,” she said.
In that way, you have been grace for me. On certain overwhelming days, when it’s hard to catch my breath and bleakness curls around my heart like a purring cat, I can reach for any of your films — “Rushmore,” “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “Life Aquatic” or “You Me and Dupree” — and laughter liberates my soul. Your words, written or spoken, sometimes provide the space for joy where it felt like there was none.
Thank you for that.
Now, I don’t know you from Adam. You’re just a “TV friend,” as they say. Still, I can’t help but believe that the common thread in your character portrayals — whether it’s whacked-out-on-mescaline Eli Cash, self-effacing fatherless Ned Plimpton, or tiny-cowboy-with-a-Napoleon-complex Jedediah — is the inherent you. The Owen-ness. It’s a certain empathy — profound tenderness, really — that makes the ridiculous compelling and buoys tragedy to comedy.
Seeing with God’s eyes
It is precisely because of your wounded-ness and the visible cracks in your veneer that your characters transcend two-dimensional clownishness.
You are the ne’er-do-well we root for in spite of himself (and our own judgementalism). You bring out the best in us and make it easy to forgive setting the living room on fire or crashing our wedding (or funeral). You are the mensch, the fool for the Lord, the stranger whom we let in, the divine comedian.
One blogger, a journalist who apparently knew you in Austin, Texas, back in the day, described you recently in a heartfelt essay as “a human sunbeam in the abyss.”
I’m guessing, given recent events, that kind of description may seem laughable to you. Still, that’s how many folks perceive you even if you can’t see it yourself. And sometimes strangers can see us far more clearly than we are capable of seeing ourselves. If we’re really lucky, they might see us with God’s eyes.
I had to chuckle at one of the news reports about your hospitalization that breathlessly reported you had visited a Santa Monica church the Sunday before the incident, “either out of desperation or devotion.'’ Really, I can think of no better reasons to go to church. After all, to quote Annie again, the best two prayers one can offer to the Creator are: “Help me, help me, help me,” and “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Should you find yourself back at that church or another, please know it is meant to be a shelter in the storm, the place where brokenness is the only prerequisite for membership, and where grace is shared by the bucketsful.
Know that you don’t struggle alone, that you have kind company during dark nights of the soul, that you are lifted in prayer by those who know and love you best, as well as by those who only know you as the voice of Lightning McQueen.
Please let others hold space for you until the encroaching shadow of despair passes. And it will.
And when your contagious laughter bubbles to the surface and overflows once again, know that you are in the presence of the holy.
We need you and the peals of holy laughter you inspire
On her generosity:
"I am a very giving person. When the hurricane thing happened, I went to my closet, filled six boxes of stuff and said to my assistant, 'Take it to Katrina!' I also like to give stuff to people who are my 'workers,' especially if they don't make much money." ~ Avril Lavigne in interview to Q Magazine
Not that I care about singer Avril Lavigne in the least, but her attitude is one I've witnessed in other people. As a working class girl sometimes I find myself for various reasons, in the company of people who have wealth. Right off the bat I'm coming from a different perspective and I get that, but I'm always surprised and disappointed when a person of means condescends to give in the way Avril describes in the quote.
It's stunning to me how entitled some wealthy people are. I have seen people of means, like Miss Avril pack up shit they don't want and give it away like it's a pot of gold. They would never in a million years dream of buying someone something new, paying a generous wage, or heaven forbid just share what they have, but they seem to think you can't wait to make room in your house for their junk.
Another thing I find stunning about entitled people is their distant view of the world and it's problems. I've always believed, To whom much is given, much is expected but I guess when you live in a great place and have everything you want you don't want to depress yourself with those Katrina people? It's easier to get your help to ship something in between changing your sheets and cleaning your bathroom.
It's been my personal experience that the entitled just don't get it. They aren't in the same reality no matter how much they pretend. Once a friend who is a Fed-Ex worker was at his wife's company Xmas party. He was seated with an orthopaedic surgeon. They realized they both had kids in college and the surgeon made a big point of saying how expensive it was paying for his children's college. My friend said he was laughing to himself and wondering if he and the Doc might switch paychecks and then see how difficult it was.
How inspirational of ADVIL Lavigne to crow to a magazine about her charitable ways. See, she isn't the self-centered, oblivious little poser everyone thought she was. I really hope her next CD doesn't tank because some charitable soul might have to write her a reality check.

Six boxes of Hot Topic items isn't anything to brag about.
Remember people like, James Van Der Beek, Monica Lewinsky, Hanson or Arsino Hall? Just barely, right? Well the good news is we won't have to live with Perez Hilton on the airwaves forever either.

On a holiday weekend you read & hear, "drive safely" where ever you go. Recently, Hulk Hogans son, Nick (17) landed a close friend in ICU in critical condition. Nick's friend, John (22) just made it back from Iraq and now it looks like he might not survive the car wreck. Speed demon Nick walked away with barely a scratch or did he? Of course the Hogans are facing legal woes either way, but Nick will have this on his conscience the rest of his life.
I don't like to tell people how to drive. While I do have a commercial drivers license I know everyone considers themselves good drivers but here is the thing....people pick up bad habits without even realizing it. As a CDL license holder I'm taken back out on the road every four years to be retrained. The last time most people were out on the road with someone holding a clipboard, they were sixteen. The reason I'm retrained is because I'm never permitted to hang on to any bad habits for long. Thank goodness!
I can't emphasize how important doing the speed limit is. The speed limit is there because it is the proven number that will keep accidents to a minimum. The speed limit isn't there to annoy you, it is there to save your life and the lives of people like Nick's friend, John.
Driving reckless with me in your car is a deal breaker. Plain and simple. I have too much to live for and if someone can't respect the value of my life they can count me out of theirs. There is no where I am in that much of a hurry to get too.
I wonder if John can ever forgive Nick? Will John's family ever find forgiveness in their hearts? I can't even fathom what these people are going through and why- because Nick considered himself a race car driver (He drove in a few races)? Nick's behavior, like any wreckless speed demon just exhibits a pathetic level of immaturity and an inability to place value on anything but your own selfish whims. Long after Nick's family BUYS him out of this legal problem, Nick's friend John may or may not have his life to live.
Drive safely.

Nick's car "inexplicably left the roadway," jumped a median and crashed into a palm tree.
