Stay Off The Roads in LA: Lohan is on the Loose!

This mornings mugshot via TMZ

Arrested! Lohan is high and driving in the wee hours of the morning. Thankfully, I was sleeping at 1:30AM in anticipation of my day at the beach in Malibu.

Lindsey might be a low bottom addict. While relapse is apart of recovery, she may have to lose everything before she can clean up. It's sad and unfortunate, but we've seen this cautionary tale a million times.

Quick Update: Beverly Hills

I spent yesterday in Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive, we even took a drive through Bel Air. The homes are amazing, but I have to say the most fabulous thing about this place is the weather. It is fantastic. I don't have big frizzy hair here- no humidity! I have never broken a sweat even in 90 degrees. Julie bought a Louis Vuitton bag and some Gucci sunglasses to go with her Gucci bag. All lovely items as you can imagine. Afterwards we went to the Beverly Hills Hotel for coffee and more shopping. Finally starved and ready for dinner, we went to Dukes Malibu for dinner. It was right by the ocean and the coconut shrimp were delicious. I'm taking pics so I'll post more later regarding Vegas and the cowboy ranch. Ciao!

Shoplifting in LA

Julie and I were shopping in Larchmont Village today. In a little boutique she tried on a long pink cotton dress. Perfect for Vegas we thought, so into the dressing room she goes. I'm sitting there drinking an ice tea checking out the baubles in a case right in front of me. I slipped on a bubble ring admiring it and wondering the cost. Just then Julie called me in the dressing room to check out the fit of the dress. She didn't like the way bust area was fitting and she wanted me to give it a try. The dress fit me and we debated whether or not I needed it (I don't) considering I brought dresses with me for Vegas.

Cut to an hour later. We're at a great beauty supply store. I'm at the register buying a few must-haves. I look down at my hand and guess what I see? AH! I snatch the ring off my finger and throw it in my purse like I'm on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list. I confessed too Julie but no, I did not return it.

I'm Outta Here

In one minute it will be July 10th and at 5 AM I leave town for three weeks. I can't believe it's finally here. I'm concerned about getting through the airport so I only packed my little bomb. *Kidding* Christ only knows what I'll be pulled out of line for, probably a deadly lip gloss or something.

I'll hit the ground running once in LA. We have plans for tomorrow evening. A live concert and fireworks, it will be wonderful I'm sure.

I don't know how much blogging I'll do even though it's pretty much an addiction. The plan is lots of picture taking and that means exciting blog posts for later (I hope). Vegas and the Grand Canyon are where I hope to get some great shots obviously, but the beaches are beautiful as well.

This isn't good-bye just so long and a much welcomed change of pace for me. *Hugs*

The Peaceniks R Coming, The Peaceniks R Coming!

"This fascinating documentary shows how far government will go to throttle opposition, but also how, sometimes, you can fight the establishment and win." ~ M. K. Terrell
Christian Science Monitor

I just finished watching The US vs. John Lennon. The film starts out with the quote "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." A lot of us were children during the Nixon administration and maybe that's the problem with this country today?

As a kid, I remember my grandfather hating, loathing and despising Richard Nixon on a daily basis. Crook was a word often tossed around when Nixon came on the TV along with a litany of some other choice words. I remember my mother explaining the Watergate scandal to me and feeling so shocked that such important people were so dishonest. Night after night the American public was told Nixon would not be releasing those damned audio tapes. It was disgraceful.

As I recall my mother watched happily as Nixon boarded that plane in disgrace and she was pissed when Ford pardoned him. I was 12 years. My Mom said we were "working stiffs" and should never as long as we live, vote Republican because they help the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Nixon hated the star power John Lennon wielded. Lennon and Ono moved the masses during the Vietnam war and Nixon pulled every sneaky, dirty trick in the book to erase what he called the "counterculture" and get reelected. Sound familiar because it should. Watching the movie, you see stunning comparisons to this criminal Bush administration. Vietnam and Iraq; two wars we created in the name of democracy- both dead ends. Scooter Libby, John Ehrlichman, Dick Cheney, J. Edgar Hoover the names are interchangeable when talking about corruption and the sabotage of people that challenge this paranoid administration.

If you haven't seen The US vs John Lennon please do so. It's really a treat to hear Lennon and Ono preach a gospel that is as relevant now as it was then. There message was so simple and yet too complex for Republicans to grasp. Two creative genius' who scared the hell out of the war mongers. It would be laughable if the Cheneys' and Rumsfelds' weren't so dangerous. I think of the Elizabeth Hasselbacks' and Bill O'Reillys who delight in their appointed task of spewing Republican/Bush rhetoric over the air waves daily.

The great thing about history is the perspective it gives us. People still try to spin history by telling us Ronald Regan was a great leader and Gerald Ford "united" the country by pardoning Nixon. I'm sorry but for those of us who lived through those times we will remember it from another perspective. As for the events occuring these days, I will remember that I never voted for George W. Bush becaues I care about the working class and the poor and I will remember protesting in NYC before the war because I know dropping bombs on innocent people for their oil is wrong.

Happy 4th Peeps

Unfortunately, Takeru Kobayashi didn't win Nathan's Hot Dog contest today. He only ate 63 dogs. Joey Chestnut from San Jose won and broke the world record by downing 66. Watch the clip as Kobayashi chokes back the vomit! That guy has an amazing technique for competitive eating but I can't help but wonder if these guys aren't destroying their health. It's really an amazingly freaky sport.

Listen To A Harvard Grad (And No It's Not Me)

"So, next time I hear reports of injustice, as I reach for a placard, I'll also reach for a phone. As I create a flyer, I'll also facebook my online friends. I hope you will, too. And then, maybe -- just maybe -- the walls will come down." ~ Leah Anthony Libresco

I found a cool German rock music site because it contains an excellent interview with Tom Morello (And yes a Harvard man). Towards the end of the interview Tom discusses the changes that have been made when the common folk question "authority." Whether it's work, school or society- we make the rules and dictate the quality of our lives. Let's get universal health care, bring U.S. troops home from Iraq, stop the torture of detainees, end the tragedy in Darfur and let's demand that our government officials live according to the law of the land.

Impeach Bush

Bush has commuted the sentence of Scooter Libby. This comes as absolutely no surprise. The Bush administration has a well established record of contempt for the law and for the American people. Perhaps this will serve to further outrage and embolden Democrats in Congress who should be embracing impeachment as the solution to ridding our country of this criminal administration.

See Sicko

I just saw the 10:30AM showing of Sicko and it was AMAZING! Everyone is the United States should see this movie. Michael Moore makes some really excellent points that I'd like too mention here without giving a full review of the film other than too say- SEE SICKO!

* Many Republicans spout off about not wanting "socialized" medicine yet we have socialized many things in this country such as:

The Police

The Fire department

US Postal Service

The Public Library

* Are there other political reasons we are always told the French are not our friends. You must see the film to get the full meaning behind that statement. It's a real eye-opener.

* Nixon instated HMO's. They are a for profit health care business.

* The United States is the only country in the western world without universal health care.

* Americans are kept demoralized (ashamed of not being able to afford health care etc.) so they will never rock the boat at work. The French take to the streets in protest more often and get a lot more. Americans fear their goverment and in France the goverment fears the people. Example:

We have fewer sick days and holiday time off.

Many of us will not be able to afford retirement.

* Many of us do not vote or vote in a way that is diametrically opposed to what is in your own best interest. ( HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN SCREAMING ABOUT THAT ON THIS BLOG??)

* And finally, if you are insured and think you have nothing to fear- SEE SICKO!

The Troubadour

"Since opening in 1957, the legendary Troubadour club in West Hollywood has helped launch some of contemporary music's most talented performers. Greats such as Elton John, James Taylor and Tom Waits performed there early in their careers, and it continues to be a destination for cutting-edge acts from around the world.
The Troubadour also remains a popular venue among serious music fans who enjoy listening to live music in an intimate and historically rich setting."

I'm so excited! We're going to see The Nightwatchman (Tom Morello's acuostic alter ego) perform at the legendary Troubadour in West Hollywood. How cool is that? I know I just saw him in Philly, but with CBGB closed, there are so few places with this level of history still open and he was amazing. What an event this promises to be!
