The girls- my nieces. (L-R: Violet from The Incredibles, Tinkerbell, and Fifty's Girl)
Mayor Bloomberg's (R- New York) twenty-three year old daughter, Georgina Bloomberg has a new charitable venture. She wants you to know it is a stereotype that only the wealthy ride horses and compete. Ms. Bloomberg is collecting used riding gear and apparel for the needy. Come on people don't laugh. Sure there is Aids and world hunger but this is important too!
"Bloomberg is grateful that she has never had to work at a barn but, rather, has a barn work for her: her team in North Salem consists of seven horses, a trainer, an office manager, a work rider who exercises the horses when she is unable to do so, and four grooms. “My father pays for the horses, and he pays for school, but other than that I support myself,” she said."
In the meantime she hopes to take this program national but for now she is is concentrating on outfitting riders in the Northeast. I remember seeing this poor little rich girl in the film, Born Rich. During the course of the film she seemed to feel guilty about not being more career/ goal oriented. As she expressed on camera, all she cared about was riding horses.

I just put the 1975 documentary entitled, Grey Gardens into my Netflix cue. It's a musical on Broadway and I have to see it. Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange are set to star in the film and while I enjoy both of those actresses I fully expect Hollywood to turn the story into a superficial farce with no real substance. No it's definitely the musical for me.

Grey Gardens brings to life the true account of the delightfully eccentric aunt and cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Once the brightest names in New York society, the mother and daughter team become complete recluses in the Hamptons occupying a 28 room mansion with themselves, 54 cats and very little plumbing. The neighbors can't tolerate the eye sore and the board of health is called in to take action. Jackie and her sister Lee did come to the rescue and prevent the eviction of their father's sister and their cousin. Known as "Little Edie & Big Edie" this is a cautionary tale of love and dysfunction in a family. Sure to cut the the core of any parent and child who are in a binding relationship, their story is simultaneously heart-breaking and hysterical.
Check out Little Edie's fashion choices and how they relate to today. Brilliant! I'm loving this.
Little Edie wore the scarves because she was losing her hair. She picked anything up for the floor and made it fashion, like a child. So Mary Kate Olsen! I hope I'm wacky like this when I'm old. Won't my nieces love that?!
Twelve noon today I trekked over the World Cafe Live and took the opportunity to see one of my favorite artists, Sean Lennon. Ms. Jimmi warned me via a phone conversation that I would also be treated to obsessed Beatles fans who wanted a "lookie loo" in their patchouli scented duds at young Mr. Lennon. Damned if she wasn't right! As I stood in line I heard some guys behind me talking about checking Sean's music out for the first time the night before. That conversation continued with more chit chat about you guessed it, the Beatles. I studied my watch and cell phone praying for the line to move. The large crowd marched along quickly and I captured a spot up front left side of the stage. Sean and the band were really tight and on point.
Sean charmed the audience with his ad libbing flavored with a British wit for silliness. The play list was totally Sean's new CD Friendly Fire and after the live broadcast Sean came back out and treated the crowd to a final song. I'm sure there were JL fans there- curiosity seekers if you will, but the show was for Sean's fans and they were there to support him. Sean is returning to Philadelphia on December 15th and performing at the TLA.
Listen to what I watched and enjoyed LIVE!

When you live on the east or west coast you take cultural diversity for granted. Middle America and the South do not (Yea I said it). Obama won't win those areas and for one reason only- his skin color. It's sad and pathetic but it's true. I'm disgusted with Democrats and Republicans both but I would never vote or not vote for anyone based on skin color, religion or sex. Like I said, when you live in certain areas you take a lot for granted.

An interesting concept in theatre that apparently has been around for quite a while. Plays are written and rehearsed in a twenty four hour period. I would love, love, love too see a play directed by Andrew McCarthy!
"When Halston died he said, take care of Liza." ~ Part II Reality Show
I know the marriage is long over but check out ten minutes of a pilot they did for VH1. Oh. My. God. I love it. Nothing but these two running around NYC with assistants trying to look busy. David shops for CDs and Liza takes a dance class. How great would this show have been?
Mental Note To Self...

Part 2
Part 3
There are certain factors in my life that I wish were different and then I stop and think. When those circumstances change then new ones will of course evolve. There is no use in wishing certain things away, replacements await.
For example, as much as I like my job I've remained on the fence about it as I go into my second year. Today I started doing the pro and con list in my head. Mostly there are only pro reasons and then I stop and think. No matter where you work there is always something you will wish was different. Years ago I decided I wanted my own desk and a computer in the work place and that was what I got. For the next seven years I was miserable. I felt chained to the area and worse still, confined with certain people I didn't like. By the time I left the job and my desk there were so many pictures hanging up it screamed of a girl who was dying to be anywhere but there.
I guess the answer really is to just live in each day and not become a forecaster. I read something recently that said, "Pray and hope. Don't worry." That's about all anyone can do besides be grateful. Circumstances come and go and always bring lessons. Nothing and no one is ever going to be perfect. I just need to remember that things are really good right now.

"PRISONER OF KRACKASTAN"!
The Dumpsta Players are a monthly themed interactive improvisational theatre experience that parodies society's joys and ills in an irreverent and over-the-top style. Dumpsta was chosen as a name because the company recycles costumes, actors, characters, and comic bits month after month. Dumpsta also brings to mind the trashy nature of our performing -- drag queens, bois & gurls, and all walks of life come together and express joy, rage and general chaos through live mic and lipsynched sketches once a month!
I have to admit it because I wonder if others feel the same- I'm so intrigued listening to "Christians" talk about Halloween being Satanic. About a week ago some actress (I have no idea who she is) was co-hosting on the view and the "girls" casually mentioned what their kids were going to dress as for the Halloween festivities. Rosie turns to the actress and asks if she has her child's costume ready and she comes out with, I don't celebrate that evil Satanic holiday. WOW. That landed like a lead balloon. The actress goes on to explain that she gave in to her 10 year old last year and she felt so guilty for letting him dress up. This year she refused to give in and she was happy with that decision. Everyone congratulated her for sticking to her guns, but it was so creepy and strained.
The nuns in Catholic school called it, "All Saint's Day" and would even go as far as suggesting we dress as our patron Saint. I don't know any kid that bought into that song and dance.
Kids love to dress up. Period. With the added bonus of candy, Halloween is a child's utopia. How do some frightened adults work Satan into it? How does dressing up, candy and trick or treating turn in something that represents evil? Oh I know the Christians have some "origins" argument, but so what! Isn't their enough real evil in the world such as hunger, child abuse and war? Why attach some imaginary fear to an otherwise festive day? Let the kids have their innocent fun.
PowerHouse Arena in Brooklyn is a multifaceted art and music event of hip-hop, breaking, graffiti, and film. They are showing a trailor for the documentary on the Fun House as well Charlie Ahearn's 1983 quintessential hip-hop film, Wild Style which I saw in 1983 on 69th Street in Upper Darby, PA. Fun House featured works of Basquiat, Scharf, Haring, Futura 2000, Fab 5 Freddy, and others. They are having a panel discussion and music and the event is free and open to the public.

Fact:
Did you know that the lining of your outer ear has modified apocrine glands called ceruminous glands? These modified sweat glands produce ear wax. Ear wax is thought to prevent foreign material from entering your ears, including insects.

A friend was admiring my toenail polish and said she thought she was too old to pull it off. I promised her she wasn't (and I really meant it). I think I will buy her a bottle of this OPI rebel color called Lincoln Park After Dark, from their Chicago collection. It's a deep purple meets black and it's actually pretty.

People put a lot of pressure on themselves to work out, especially when they are very over weight and in no kind of shape. Lately, I've come across some interesting information via a trainer and a weight lose consultant and they say 80% of weight lose is eating properly. Before you guilt yourself over the exercise or lack thereof, try getting a food plan in place. It might be less overwhelming and when the pounds start coming off an exercise program will be more realistic. If you are more advanced and ready to step it up, check out reality star and model Adrianne Curry's suggestions on fitness and food. She has a lot of good common sense things to say and the body to boot.
I'm making a list of all the benefits I have received since I started eating healthy in July. I'm shocked when I think of how much weight I have lost since July but I'm completely serious in saying that really has not been the greatest benefit. I know that sounds so phony but when I think about the ways my daily life has become easier and richer it's the truth. Just read my list and you will see what I mean. The benefits are as follows...
* I sleep better.
* I don't have various food cravings anymore.
* I haven't eaten pizza (a former addiction) in 3 months and I DON'T MISS IT.
* Just for today: I never want to eat unhealthy again.
* I see the damage loads of bread and pasta do to my mind and body.
* I feel full most of the time and hungry only at meal time.
* I have so much more energy and I can go longer in my day. This has allowed me to accept new challenges.
* I only eat out twice a week and they are planned meals. Planning has been key because I don't think about what to eat the rest of the time.

My Mom calls this a carb face.
I've really been making a point of adding some current music to my listening repertoire and I've been doing quite well, but yesterday I slipped (back into the 80's) and added Kings of The Wild Frontier. Later I was redeemed when I learned this very tune is part of Sophia Coppola's new Maria Antoinette soundtrack. Of course I couldn't have just one Adam Ant song, I binged and added others. I saw these guys live in the 80's. The videos are great because they transport me back in time too the clubs. Check it out- Pirates (which are back is fashion) and gorgeous Adam doing that 80's dance. Love it.

What would you do if say one day, you woke up elderly and in a hospital or even at home only to realize that it had been days maybe weeks since any of your family came to see you? Might you ask yourself why? Might you ask what you had done to alienate everyone around you? You might, then again you might not as in the case with my father.
It's a recurring theme in my life- people are there for you, if you are there for them. Isolating yourself because you don't want to need anyone is toxic. Couple that with a bad attitude and you've got the makings of a whole lot of alone time at your most vulnerable time.
Having children does not guarantee that you won't be alone in your old age. In fact if you don't treat the young people in your family with respect nature pays you back on their behalf. See, you are the one getting old FIRST. It's like the bumper sticker says,
"Be nice to your kids they pick out your nursing home."

Don't assume you know where the path will take you.
Today it dawned on me that I'm in my favorite month and it's going to go by all to quickly because it always does. October is the most beautiful month. I love the weather, the smell of Fall in the air. The colors make everything look different. The hayrides my nieces take are a tradition. There is an awesome haunted hayride right near my house and I would love to go this year. Anyone brave enough to join me? It's a scary one- so be warned.
I'm still eating super healthy and loving it. Thank goodness for the willingness. Everyday, I see a group of dancers walking to their studio wearing these toasty looking carcoat sweaters. I have to get one for myself. Yippe October, so much to look forward too.
