My Season Finale

I hate to see the summer end in spite of the heat of which I am no fan of. Overall it's been fun for me. I worked a little (and that's my favorite kind of work) and hung out with the nieces. I even made it to NYC once even though I almost passed out on the sidewalk from a heat stroke. I watched a lot of reality TV and surfed dish/dirt sites, like the Musto's column in the Village Voice and World of Wonder. The frivilous, meaningless lives of the stars was where my head was at this summer. I can barely allow myself to think about the occupation in Iraq. This Christian Right can piss me off on a daily basis if I let them.

So reality sets in and I start my new job on Sept. 6th. I had an in service day with my new employers yesterday and it went well. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I can put in lots of hassle free time at this place. One bit of shocking news was they have a union. I had no idea. No one in HR mentioned the union to me, I guess thats no too shocking, right? It should make for an exciting year. Lots of drama amongst my co-workers I'm sure. Over the years, I've mastered the art of staying out of that stuff. Mums the word on good ole Liz Fine. If you don't know me outside of work, then you don't know me. Oh I'm pleasent and friendly enough, but people usually think I'm "quiet."

This summer brought about its share of new beginnings for me. I have made some connections with people I value and look forward to working with. I put some highlights in my hair and made myself available to friends in their time of need. Bonding always feels nice. I let some old stuff go and cut myself some slack. I really did'nt post that much this summer because my laptop quit on me and blah, blah, blah.

I'm looking forward to hanging out in NYC, and watching that new prison drama (though nothing will replace OZ). I guess its exciting just knowing that I'm available for whatever the Fall season brings. Don't worry, I'll be keeping you posted.

Hugs*

Six Feet Under

I really liked the finale. They took you THERE. The writers showed us the future which is really a frightening thing when I think about it in the context of my own life. Actually, I prefer not to plan for it. Anyway, the ending of Six Feet Under...

We see the main cast get old and pass on. Ok I can deal with that, however I really didn't like the make-up job on the actors. I really thought the hair on everyone was horrible. David would have been a way cuter queer old man than what they did to him. Keith was still hot, but everyone was grey! Claire and Brenda never dyed their hair, I mean come on! Claire lived to be like 100 and that was depressing. The song they played as Claire drove off into the future was really beautiful and I loved how the writers let her leave, alone without the "benefit" of being married Ted. Later they would meet again and that is real.

*Can just say that still rent OZ on DVD. God I miss a good prison drama!

Meeting Molly

Finding someone that you can obsess with about certain people isn't easy believe me. So when I found out Molly was coming to NYC, I had to go and meet up for lunch. Face to face we hashed over the same topics we text message about on a daily basis. Pizza at Lombardi's, talk of our mutial gay boyfriends, topped off with a trip to Sephora and MAC? I found a soulmate.

I made this T-shirt for Molly.

Who doesn't love the movie, Say Anything? One of the most hysterical scenes is Lily Taylor's character at a party crooning for her beloved ex boyfriend, Joe.

I've been creating some cool club kid T's myself and having a blast.

A little change purse, how adorable! *squeel*

How much would I LOVE to own this pair of boots & bag? They are so Native American and perfect for east coast winters.

Former Club Kid Makes Good

Richie Rich and Traver Rains have launched their clothing line, Heatherette at Henri Bendel in NYC. Soon the edgy club kid inspired line will be available at high end stores across the country. The tee shirts are so kick ass, I can't wait to check the stuff out this weekend in NYC.

Armed and Dangerous But In Love

"Mr. Hyatte hollered 'Shoot him!' She opened up fire on the officers, hitting one in the abdomen." ~Police Chief Jim Washam

Have you seen this match made in heaven? I thought Whitney and Bobby were a cute power couple but Mr. and Mrs. Hyatte take the cake or should I say gun? She busted him out of the courtroom yesterday, shooting and killing a guard before her significant other could be taken back to jail. The authorities believe she has been wounded. They met while she was a nurse (The number one co-dependent career choice) at a prison and he was.....big shocker here..... an inmate. She was eventually fired for the liaison and now she is a wanted fugitive from justice with her man. This Bonnie and Clyde duo won't be taken alive and I'm glued to the news hoping to see footage of the shoot out.

Update: Police said Jennifer Forsyth Hyatte, 31, and George Hyatte, 34, gave up without a fight Wednesday night. Dammit!!

My Life On The D List

I was watching Bravo tonight and Kathy Griffin's stand-up routine was hysterical. She is SO on the money about fame and celebrity. Self-righteous Oprah for example- Kathy watches the show daily to be stunned and amazed at O going ghetto in 30 seconds or less then snapping back. "I ain't gonna be no slave now," O chides in a show where she returns to the 1600's as if her producers would ever suggest such a thing. Kathy has her own unique point of view, or does she?

Can you feel the sway in the breeze? In 2005 it seems as though everyone is just doing things their own way. It's hard to work around the rules that are jammed in our faces everyday. The people in charge aren't terribly trustworthy to the subordinates; the kids in the back seat are getting restless and tussling. The A-list celebs are a laughing stock now, Tom Cruise, Michael Jackson, the Beniffers, Brad and Jen's perfect marriage. We finally know them for the mere humans they have always been. Reality TV killed sitcoms. Anything in its flawed state is just more interesting. Perfection is the big lie and many are done playing the game.

I have always related to the outsiders. I love gay people and drug addicts who struggle one day at a time to recover. Let's face it, these are the dynamic people among us. It seems this decades halfway mark is about bucking the system and ripping the curtain back on that fake ass wizard (See the musical Wicked for more on that theme).

I don't know what its all going to mean in the end, but there is something brewing. The power of the flawed masses. No one is above it all and if you think you are then we will hold you up to the light and give you your own reality show or show your fat pictures.

Oh no Liz, not another 80's story

Yes, I'm afraid so. I feel like my Father who is always reminiscing about his H.S. football years. Anyway, I was looking up the address for Keith Haring's Pop Shop in SoHo and I see that they are closing their doors for good in September. This makes me feel so sad because back in the 80's when the store first opened I went there. Keith had just been featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer and of course I was familiar with him as Warhol's buddy and as a street artist.

Myself and boyfriend at the time, headed to the Pop Shop one day and Keith was there working. I remember the sweatshirts were about $25.00, which was a lot then. My b/f told Keith he would buy two if Keith would autograph them and he did. Keith told me he didn't like the article about himself in the Philly paper. That day I took a lot of photographs of Keith's cool art around the city. I especially loved his crack is wack billboard. He was such a sweet person. Years later he did pass away. His work still makes me happy when I see it and I saw it hanging on the wall in a restaurant two weeks ago! This store was a happy place and meeting Keith was such a thrill.
