Mayor Bloomberg's (R- New York) twenty-three year old daughter, Georgina Bloomberg has a new charitable venture. She wants you to know it is a stereotype that only the wealthy ride horses and compete. Ms. Bloomberg is collecting used riding gear and apparel for the needy. Come on people don't laugh. Sure there is Aids and world hunger but this is important too!
"Bloomberg is grateful that she has never had to work at a barn but, rather, has a barn work for her: her team in North Salem consists of seven horses, a trainer, an office manager, a work rider who exercises the horses when she is unable to do so, and four grooms. “My father pays for the horses, and he pays for school, but other than that I support myself,” she said."
In the meantime she hopes to take this program national but for now she is is concentrating on outfitting riders in the Northeast. I remember seeing this poor little rich girl in the film, Born Rich. During the course of the film she seemed to feel guilty about not being more career/ goal oriented. As she expressed on camera, all she cared about was riding horses.

I one passed a group of impoverished, needy equestrians on the street a few days ago. I gave them one slightly used and stained riding crop from my personal toy box. I saw their eyes light up and then I went home, wept, drank a bottle of scotch and felt good about myself. |
