V for Vendetta starring Natale Portman was really good. I had no interest in it when it was in theaters, but what a good movie it turned out to be. In the mood for a really touching movie based on a true story? Try the classic, I'll Cry Tomorrow. It stars the amazing Susan Hayward and despite the sappy title this film isn't for saps. It's based on the true story of former child star Lillian Roth's fall &recovery from alcoholism. Ms. Roth insisted they tell the graphic story so the film really holds up today. Next, I would recommend Woody Allen's Husbands and Wives. This stars Mia Farrow and it's very compelling from start to finish. This weekend I watched Inside Man starring Denzel Washington and Clive Owen. Very smart action drama- not the typical stuff. This really has lots of twists.

I've seen all of four of these films; loved them all. Inside Man knocked me out, one of Spikes best IMHO. As for Hayward, you can't go wrong with that tough broad (born and raised in Philly btw). Husbands and Wives is mesmerizing V for Vendetta is a neat comic book view on fascism (a lesson for these times). |
