This review was sent to me by my long time friend, Lee. Thanks Lee!
This movie was terribly entertaining from the twisted beginning to the slightly more unsettling end.
The show was visually both spectacular and ominous. It had an odd mixture of mainly black and white emphasized by colorized portions/images. While I found it to be pretty unsettling and sometimes annoyingly over-the-top, overall it worked very well and gave the show a definite well-suited feel. It set the tone very well for the theatre to follow
Based on a comic book series, the flick had a good graphic novel taste that didn\'t seem to fail like oh so many comic-book adaptations have before. The plot jumped and followed several interlaced stories throughout a corrupt crime-riddled vice-heavy city.
The movie was a great ensamble cast that didn\'t have much time for character development (although surprisingly the characters seemed to work despite the pitfall). Especially impressive was Marv (Mickey Rourke), an almost indestructible and very ethical thug with a heart of rusty gold and a penchant for dealing out well-deserved torturous deaths to people who are more evil than himself. Bruce Willis also played the great character of a washed-up and retired police officer with a bum ticker (although the viewer is expected to look past the fact that he looks about 15 years too young for the role).
To those seeking eye candy, of course there was your lineup of beautiful women--frequently topless or in other stage of lack of dress *grins*. A majority of the female characters were either exotic dancers or hookers, so what did you expect? Of course, women were not left out on the eye candy front--fortunately for the strait men in the crowd they were clothed.
If you have a problem with gore or didn\'t see violent humor in moves like pulp fiction, starship troopers or natural born killers do yourself a favor and avoid this movie. It is not for the serious or weak of stomach. If you find yourself laughing at many of the wrong times or situations--do not even consider missing this film.
This movie was rated R, of course, for nudity, profanity, \"styalized violence\"/gore, and about every other unsavory subject matter-related thing under the sun. But, hey, if you want to see a pedophile get his nuts ripped off at least you know what movie to watch.
