Andy Warhol Was Right

In the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes. ~ Andy Warhol

Am I the only one who is tired of everyone and their fifteen minutes of fame? Sure I know it’s the American way and all that jazz but come on. Just recently there has been several of what I like to call fifteen minute famers. First there was William "She Bangs" Hung. At first a frightening oddity, he now has a CD of himself tearing up hit songs, with what really should be those teeth and not his voice. Ah, but that’s part of his charm, right? Just yesterday, when I was home flipping through channels, I see this girl who was not picked on American Idol. This contest "loser" appeared on at least three different programs being interviewed as well as performing. The Rocket Man himself, Elton John, even came forward to say that her not being chosen as a finalist on American Idol was racist. Racist Elton, trust me, there are far greater signs of racism in the United States then some pretty girl not winning a singing contest. Later one of the finalists, mother, stated publicly that her red-headed, sixteen year old son has received death threats. Mom stepped up security around the kid and implored his would be attackers to back off. This doesn't surprise me; we all know there are fanatical fans out there. This fifteen minute frenzy isn't just attached to the American Idol program. The Today Show this morning featured a gentleman who was selling his ex-wife’s wedding gown on EBay, by actually posing in the gown. Beard and tattoos blazing, he slapped his picture on the auction site all decked out in white. The Today Show gang was having a chuckle with him and this guy was grabbing frantically at the attention (Divorced huh, what a shocker). He kicked out every old tired joke in the book.

"Bitter, party of one your table is ready." He quipped.

This go-getting divorcee managed to work in that his web site was going up today, and he is available for writing gigs. He pointed out that he has been likened to Erma Bombeck. Oh did I mention he appeared on the Today Show, via satellite, once again, wearing the wedding gown and veil.

I think my friends should be happy that I only blog... for now.

Andy, please make it stop.
