Join the Bamboo Crusade

Recently, I've come across a fascinating person named,Joćo Paulo Freire Paglione, as it turns out, he as been blogging right along side me for some time. With the limitless talent of Dimi, my friend and webmaster, he has taken his cause to the net for expanded awareness and I think it's really incredible. I'm talking about the benefits of bamboo, both economically and environmentally.
"Well, not just nature, sustainable alternative renewable non-wood tropical resource, " is the way that Joćo described it too me. What a wonderful peace loving way for a country to grow and prosper. Joćo even promised to send me a cool bamboo lamp, so that Philly can have a taste of this beautiful natural resource.

I'm trying to get my hands on anything bamboo...particularly the building with it.
I live in the high desert and am anxiously awaiting delivery of Gray Bamboo and Tortoise Bamboo.
Thanks for any input.
Love this website - really neat.

Believe it or not all I was looking for was information on how to plant a bamboo stem, very thin, very curley that has been growning at a fantastic rate in a basket with flowers and water for the past week.
I have not been able to find anything available on how to cultivate this lovely plant. How to cut it or any information on it's care. At the rate it growing in the past week it should grow to about 12' to the ceiling by the weekend.
Can it be cut and pruned and how? What does it need to keep it growing? The mountains are cold in the winter and warm in the summer nothing was mentioned in your information on what temperatures are correct. Please reply before it hits the cieling. Many thanks.

Joao,
You might find the hooch an interesting permutation of the bamboo architecture paradigm.
I just completed hooch 7, which is significant in that I grew the guadua bamboo poles on my land, from a planting initiated 10 years prior. My yearly bamboo harvest now has the capability to provide the raw materials for more hooches, which seems like a good idea to me.
